UNCONTESTED possessions are possessions gained while under no physical pressure, either from a teammate’s disposal or an opposition’s clanger kick. These include handball receives, uncontested marks (including lead marks) and gathers from disposal.

A lead mark is the most valuable from a SuperCoach perspective, valued at five points, while a standard uncontested mark from a teammate’s kick is worth two points.

An uncontested mark directly from an opposition’s kick is more valuable, netting a player four points.

A gather from the opposition is worth three points, while a gather from a teammate is half that tally (1.5 points). All handball receives are value at 1.5 SuperCoach points.

On the negative side, a dropped mark, whether it’s directly from a teammate or off the opposition cost that player four points.

He has been a consistent scorer this season regardless of results, ranking ninth in the competition for points scored across the past month with an average of 121.

Tom Hawkins ranks equal-second for lead marks with 17 alongside Jarrad Waite.

Popular cash cow Mitch Brown ranks equal-eighth for lead marks with 13. He has now peaked in price after scoring a season-low 29 points last week.

The handball receive statistic is dominated by midfielders as it should. They are the play markers and should be handed the ball at every opportunity.

Andrew Gaff is a work horse and has led the league for handball-receives in both 2015 and 2016. He is an outside midfielder and wins the majority of his points through accumulation alone.

He is also the only midfielder at the club to average more than 90 points away from home.

Aaron Hall ranks a close second for handball-receives, while Saints veteran Leigh Montagna is flourishing in a role across half-back, ranking third overall.
