LOOPHOLE OPTIONS
The rolling lockout continues to be an option, however, with a big Friday night match between two top five teams to take each other on indoors at Marvel Stadium in what could potentially be a high (SuperCoach) scoring encounter.
TRAVIS BOAK | PORT ADELAIDE POWER | FWD | $$588,600 | 122.7 avg.
Currently the second-ranked SuperCoach player in 2019, Travis Boak has - like Cher before him - turned back time in 2019. His ownership has increased week-on-week, with 18.1% of players having him in their side now,. but if you don’t have him in your forward set-up by now then you might have missed the boat. Bizarrely, less than 0.5% of players selected him as skipper last round, despite his incredible season thus far - his lowest output is 95 away to West Coast in Round 5, but other than that he’s made more than 119 in every round thus far. It’s impossible to compare his form in 2019 with any other year, with his previous best year, in 2013, with 106.6 points per game miles away from how good he has been this year.
BRODIE GRUNDY | COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES | RUC | $685,400 | 124.0 avg.
Those SuperCoach players who jumped off Grundy after a lacklustre Round 1 may look back with serious regrets now - since then, Grundy has hit three digits every round, with four out of five scores since over 130. Just shy of 9% of SuperCoach players had him as skipper in Round 5, and you can only imagine it’s going to be higher against the Power, with an average against of 103.3 and an average of 127.3 in three games at the (now) Marvel Stadium in 2018. The ruck combo of Scott Lycett and Paddy Ryder will be a formidable combination for Grundy to combat, but his ceiling is enormous, with a projected score of 133 coming up this Friday night.
SCOTT PENDLEBURY | COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES | MID | $513,400 | 102.7 avg.
The ANZAC Day Medallist for the third time, Pendlebury is and out-and-out superstar, but the general consensus was that he wouldn’t be necessarily SuperCoach relevant in 2019. Ha, as if! Pendles just keeps on keeping on - he’s got two scores of over 130 so far this season, and always steps up in the big moments, smashing out a 138 point game against Essendon. With an average of 111.6 against the Power from 13 matchups, would it really be unreasonable to expect him not to top his previous high score against of 134?
TOM ROCKLIFF | PORT ADELAIDE POWER | MID | $$480,900 | 103.3 avg.
With Robbie Gray likely to miss a month of the season, Tom Rockliff is one of the host of senior Power players who will need to step up in his absence. His consistency has been his biggest question in 2019 - since he was injured against former club Brisbane in Round 4, he’s gone 140, then down to 90, then back to 100, and is averaging 103.3 points per game. His record against the Pies is relatively lacklustre, with an average of 82.4 from seven clashes, so perhaps he is not the wisest of skipper selections this weekend.
PROVEN HIGH SCORERS
LACHIE NEALE | BRISBANE LIONS | $675,200 | 136.2 avg.
Down on his 2019 output when compared with previous weeks in Round 5 against the Pies, Neale well and truly bounced back in the Q Clash, casually smashing out a 142 point game. Round 7 looms as a serious challenge to whether or not he can back it up - his average of 79.4 against the Swans is the lowest against any side he’s played against, and his breakeven of 160 is a whopping challenge to reach, and would be his second highest score of the season if he was to achieve it.
PATRICK CRIPPS | CARLTON BLUES | $684,500 | 128.5 avg.
In Carlton’s narrow loss against the Hawks, Cripps failed to crack three figures for the first time this season. Do you want to place a bet as to whether or not he achieves it - and so much more - against North Melbourne? He ‘only’ averages 100.3 against the Kangaroos, with a high score of 116, but it’s hard to imagine him not going to the well against the smaller Kangas midfield, and feasting upon them. With Carlton desperate to get their second win for the year, Cripps will be a vital part of that equation.
