ADELAIDE CROWS
THREE TO WATCH
Sid Draper
Boom draftee scored well against senior opposition last season, but the Crows won’t push him too hard after some summer soreness. Track his pre-season.
James Peatling
Trade recruit was the sub seven times at the Giants last season. If he slots into the midfield he’s massively underpriced.
Jordan Dawson
Trademark laser left boot deserted him at times last season but he still produced some big numbers and will play a key role in 2025 – and he’s $100k cheaper than this time 12 months ago.
BRISBANE LIONS
THREE TO WATCH
Will Ashcroft
Won the Norm Smith Medal and scored 128 SuperCoach points on grand final day. Imagine what he can do with a full pre-season.
Levi Ashcroft
Huge numbers as a junior – including 149 points in his one VFL appearance – make Will’s little brother one of the top rookie picks this year. But can he walk straight into a premiership team?
Keidean Coleman
Available at a huge discount after missing a year with an ACL. If he’s fit and taking the kick-ins for round 1 he will be very popular.
CARLTON
THREE TO WATCH
Adam Cerra
Forget last year, when he managed just 12 matches with two scores over 100. Back in 2023 he was a bona fide premium with regular scores over 120. The value is undeniable. Can we trust his body?
Sam Docherty
Also heavily discounted after an ACL cruelled his 2024. Has been a SuperCoach favourite for years but this year brings an awkward sticking point – we can only pick him in the midfield.
Jagga Smith
No.4 draft pick was a ball magnet wherever he played before being drafted, including in a handful of appearances for Richmond’s VFL team. A safe early rookie pick.
COLLINGWOOD
THREE TO WATCH
Nick Daicos
Now the centrepiece of the Magpie midfield and a points scoring machine, but he could cop some early tags and the Pies have a bye in round 3. Leaving him out to start the year could be a smart strategic move ... or a huge mistake.
Ed Allan
Daicos is pumping up the young onballer for a breakout year, declaring in December: “I think he can be an absolute superstar.” Only played twice last season but had 21 disposals and a goal in the final round. Expert more opportunities in 2025.
Dan Houston
Lured from Port Adelaide and set to assume the role of key playmaker across half-back. Will score but suspension means we won’t get a preview of how he looks in Collingwood colours until round 1.
ESSENDON
THREE TO WATCH
Zach Merrett
Don’t like stressing about your SuperCoach players? Zach is your man. He has produced season averages between 112 and 116 for five years running, and we don’t expect 2025 to be any different.
Saad El-Haawli
Mid-season draftee was poised for an AFL debut after ripping up the VFL when injury intervened. Hopefully we see him early this year.
Elijah Tsatas
Produced big numbers at under-18 level but hasn’t been able to translate that to the AFL – yet. Entering his third year (and still very cheap in SuperCoach) it’s time to make his mark.
FREMANTLE
THREE TO WATCH
Caleb Serong
Came of age last year and the trajectory is still heading up at age 24. Ranks elite for disposals and clearances and Freo has a great fixture for fantasy. Pick with confidence.
Luke Ryan
Noted fast starter who averaged a crazy 130 in the first half of 2024 before returning to mere mortal levels. Kick-in merchant who ranked No.2 in the AFL for effective kicks per game last season. If he starts hot again you want to be on board – but he doesn’t come cheap.
Nathan O’Driscoll
A rookie success in 2022, O’Driscoll could deliver again for SuperCoaches at a bargain price after injury restricted him to just two matches last season. Look for him to take a wing spot opposite Jeremy Sharp.
Geelong
THREE TO WATCH
Bailey Smith
Ticks a lot of boxes – discounted after missing all of 2024, set for a key role in the midfield at his new club and available as a forward. It will take a brave coach to leave out Bazlenka.
Mitch Knevitt
Geelong’s team has been tough to break into, which explains why the 22-year-old has played 14 games over three years. But Patrick Dangerfield is talking him up and he showed in the final round of the VFL last year what he can do if given a chance – 38 disposals, 23 contested possessions, 13 clearances, 10 tackles and 224 SuperCoach points.
Jack Martin
Has never really been a SuperCoach option mainly due to repeated injuries, but can the Cats weave their magic and turn him into Tyson Stengle Mark 2? He’s insanely cheap if they can.
Gold Coast
THREE TO WATCH
Sam Flanders
Played defence, midfield and forward last year – and showed he could score anywhere, with 18 scores in a row over 100.
Leo Lombard
Joins the club of highly touted Suns Academy young guns, and he might leapfrog some others already on the list with his electric skill set.
Daniel Rioli
Reunites with Damien Hardwick and set to take the very SuperCoach friendly role of Gold Coast half-back – where Alex Sexton was scoring hundreds last year.
GWS Giants
THREE TO WATCH
Tom Green
It’s Tom’s midfield now after some off-season departures, and he has shown the tools to score with the best players in SuperCoach. Can he do it for an entire season?
Lachie Whitfield
Settled into the perfect role last season and improved his average by 18 points a game. Uses his huge tank and footy IQ to get to the right spots, and rarely wastes a disposal.
Toby Bedford
Don’t pick him in your team but has adopted the role of SuperCoach villain after emerging as the AFL’s top tagger last year. Has a date with Nick Daicos in opening round.
Hawthorn
THREE TO WATCH
James Sicily
The arrival of Josh Battle and Tom Barrass free up Sicily to intercept at will – or be thrown forward for more matchwinning plays.
Will Day
Started and ended last season in the medical room but in between averaged 114 over a 10-round hot streak. Can he beat the injury curse and play all 23 games?
Cody Anderson
Nicknamed ‘The Beast from the East’, the teenage draftee already has the body to win his own footy against seasoned AFL midfielders. Put him on your rookie watch list.
Melbourne
THREE TO WATCH
Max Gawn
Tristan Xerri is the flavour of the month but don’t forget about big Max. A SuperCoach goliath, his 124-point average last season included scores of 162 (twice), 177 (twice) and 180.
Clayton Oliver
The most intriguing player of SuperCoach 2025. At his best he’s an elite scorer, which makes his price this year a potential bargain. Can he put it all together for a bounce-back season?
Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay
The Dees’ two first-round draft picks could be great SuperCoach selections if Simon Goodwin backs them in early – just like he did with Caleb Windsor last year.
North Melbourne
THREE TO WATCH
Caleb Daniel
Could be the biggest steal in SuperCoach this year after moving to Arden St, where he’s set to roam free across half-back. An easy pick in your forward line.
Harry Sheezel
Averaged 99.5 in his first season and 118 in his second. How high can he go in year three? Watch for him to play as a pure midfielder this year.
Tristan Xerri
Challenging Max Gawn as the No.1 big man in SuperCoach after taking his game to a new level last year. If he doesn’t win the hitout he’s usually laying a tackle, another great way to pick up SuperCoach points.
Port Adelaide
THREE TO WATCH
Jason Horne-Francis
The most expensive forward this season is a gift after being assigned FWD-MID status. Former No.1 draft pick has the talent to be anything – if he doesn’t lose his cool.
Zak Butters
Scored the most points of any midfielder last season behind Marcus Bontempelli. His attack on the footy can leave your heart in your mouth, but the SuperCoach scorers love it.
Kane Farrell
Extra points are up for grabs at half-back after the departure of Dan Houston, and Farrell is a leading candidate to take them. A big pre-season watch.
Richmond
THREE TO WATCH
Sam Lalor
No.1 pick is likely to spend a good portion of his debut year in the forward line. Tigers won’t take any risks on their boom recruit after some injury issues in his draft year. A cheaper rookie might be a better bet.
Tom Lynch
... like this guy! The 32-year-old is priced like a first-year player after two seasons ruined by injury. His body is a major worry but if he can get on the park he should score well.
Jayden Short
Could be a steal in defence if he can get back to his 2021-23 form. Tigers will need him to take more responsibility with Dan Rioli gone.
St Kilda
THREE TO WATCH
Jack Macrae
SuperCoach star of past years arrives at Moorabbin at a low low price after being frozen out of the midfield at the Western Bulldogs. Was an elite fantasy player in his prime. At age 30, has he still got it?
Mattaes Phillipou
Struggled early in 2024 but returned late in the year and looked a different player in a key midfield role. Great value if he’s in the centre square to start 2025.
Tobie Travaglia
Top-10 draft pick plays like Jack Sinclair dashing off half-back. Look for Ross Lyon to unleash him from day one and hope he can repeat the success of Darcy Wilson last year.
Sydney
THREE TO WATCH
Callum Mills
Captain will be desperate to atone for a lost 2024 when he managed only six matches. Playing as a midfielder would make him almost a must-have – over to you, Dean Cox.
Angus Sheldrick
Burt onto the scene in a rookie cameo in 2023 but couldn’t crack it for a senior game last year. If Cox looks to give more promising youngsters a go, he’s at the front of the queue.
Isaac Heeney
A SuperCoach superstar in our forward lines last season, Heeney will be in a lot fewer teams this year after being classified as a midfielder for 2025. If you like to be different, he would set your side apart.
Western Bulldogs
THREE TO WATCH
Marcus Bontempelli
Sky-high price tag will put some off but he’s the most expensive player in the game for a reason. Does all the things SuperCoach scoring system loves, from winning his own footy to kicking goals at crucial times and leading the comp in one of Champion Data’s favourite stats, the contested knock-on. It all adds up to big scores every week.
Sam Davidson
Drafted at age 22, the agile forward is the most recent winner of the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal for the most promising talent in the VFL. Previous winners include Luke Ryan, Michael Barlow and Sam Clohesy, who all made us lots of money in SuperCoach.
Matt Kennedy
Showed the ability to score well in patches at Carlton but couldn’t cement a spot in the Blues midfield. Will he have more luck at the kennel?
West Coast
THREE TO WATCH
Bo Allan
A bit cheaper than some other top-end draftees but should get opportunities from day one after playing plenty of senior footy as a teenager. Dual-position status is a nice bonus.
Matt Flynn
Cheap rucks are a great way to make money in SuperCoach and Flynn could do just that if he can shake off his injury issues and claim the No.1 ruck role at the Eagles.
Liam Baker
Former Tiger can post big SuperCoach numbers but it all comes down to where he plays. He was a Mr Fixit at Tigerland, could he settle at half-back under Andrew McQualter? If he does, he’s high on the radar.
