SuperCoach AFL 2025: Experts rate most popular trades for round 16

Who should be the No.1 trade target in SuperCoach this week – and who needs to go? Experts give their verdict on the most traded players for round 16.

It’s round 16 and rookies still top the charts when it comes to the most traded players in SuperCoach.

There are a number of good options this week that open the door to bringing in some much bigger names. But which way should you jump? And who should be traded out?

The SuperCoach experts give their verdict on the 10 most traded out, and 10 most traded in, players.

MOST TRADED OUT

Angus Clarke $217,500 DEF

Al Paton: CONSIDER – Keeping some playing bench players will be important when we start to run out of trades, and he seems safely in the Bombers’ best 22. But if you have a Tom McCarthy or Matt Carroll in defence, he can probably go.

Patch: CONSIDER – I’d probably hold but if his cash lets you do something cool then do something cool.

Tim Michell: SELL – Thanks Gus but your job is done. Bye is the perfect time to use the $100k he made to finish your team.

Tarquin Oakley: CONSIDER – If Clarke is your avenue to finish your team this week, go for it.

Matt Forrest: SELL – If he gets you up to a premium then I’m fine for shifting him, but he’s a rookie that’s making money (?) and is playing (!).

Zak Johnson $221,400 MID

AP: CONSIDER – Poor score last week but should still provide solid cover in the midfield. I would trade others first if you can.

Patch: CONSIDER – Gonna be a bit of repetition on these guys. Could be worth holding.

TM: SELL – Same theory as Clarke. You could probably hold but he won’t be eligible for DPP and might get squeezed out of the team after the bye when a few players like Zach Reid return.

TO: CONSIDER – Same as Clarke, both should make a bit more cash but it’s all about finishing your side.

MF: HOLD – Has the bye this week but he’s shown he’s more than capable of putting together a big score, don’t kill the golden goose.

Lachie Neale $521,700 MID

AP: CONSIDER – I traded Neale last week so it’s hypocritical to say don’t do it, but trading out proven premiums is fraught with danger. I wouldn’t do a straight sideways swap, but if you can get two cheaper “premiums” like Darcy and Mills, it could pay off.

Patch: HOLD – Man, I’m so tempted. So, so tempted. But if anyone can go on a tear and average 140 over nine weeks it’s Lachie Neale. Hold.

TM: SELL – Handles a tag about as well as I trade players in SuperCoach. Possibly worse. In reality, he seems happy to absorb a tag and then let Brisbane’s other players dominate. Which isn’t good for SuperCoach.

TO: HOLD – His last six scores against Port are 149, 95, 140, 130, 118 and 177.

MF: CONSIDER – If you have 2-3 Brisbane midfielders then you can consider shifting one of them, and Neale has been frustrating. Plenty of big scores, but when he doesn’t get going he busts. Most teams probably have bigger problems, though.

Neil Erasmus $277,100 FWD-MID

AP: SELL – He’s a green dot this week but you can do a fair bit with that cash.

Patch: SELL – Done his job, well done son.

TM: SELL – Seriously impressed this bloke made more than $150k. I thought that was no hope. Well done if you jumped on.

TO: SELL – Has done his job.

MF: HOLD – Break Even is 65 but I don’t think he’s one you need to shift off this week, especially during a bye round that he’s playing in.

Lachie Whitfield $509,300 DEF

AP: HOLD – Wasn’t playing this weekend anyway and could be the topscoring defender in the final eight games. I’ll be looking for a way to bring him in.

Patch: HOLD – Shouldn’t miss games.

TM: HOLD – Not going to get KO’d by Ben King every week and should pass the concussion protocols in time to return against West Coast, when he could conservatively have 97 uncontested possessions.

TO: HOLD – He was going to miss this week anyway with the bye. Doesn’t matter how much he drops in price because he’s not leaving your team.

MF: HOLD – The price drop will be painful but he’s got a bye and won’t miss a game.

Henry Hustwaite $175,500 MID

AP: SELL – Would be a major surprise if he isn’t omitted this week.

Patch: TRADE – Bye felicia.

TM: SELL – Even when he plays AFL he gets subbed at HT. Unlikely to provide cover when you need it during the run home.

TO: SELL – He’s not expected to hold his spot, but even if he does, Hustwaite won’t be making much money with a 72 Break Even.

MF: SELL – He’s not playing, not looking like he’ll be playing and barely makes it into the second half of games.

Luke Pedlar $203,700 FWD

AP: CONSIDER – There aren’t many playing forward rookies and he’s one. Will be a green dot this week, just hope he avoids the sub vest.

Patch: TRADE – Adios amigo.

TM: HOLD – For one more. Break even is achievable and he plays Richmond this week. I reckon I could kick a goal against the Tigers.

TO: HOLD – If he’s in the side. If you held when he was on the bye you may as well keep him against Richmond.

MF: CONSIDER – On the chopping block but he’s playing this week, which is more than a lot of players around the competition

Campbell Gray $173,500 DEF-FWD

AP: SELL – Only reason to hold would be if you need his DPP flexibility.

Patch: SELL – Sayonara.

TM: SELL – No sign that he’s coming back anytime soon from his knee injury.

TO: SELL – Not playing anytime soon.

MF: SELL – Still not playing for the immediate future. Sell.

Isaac Kako $230,000 FWD

AP: SELL – Gets a tick as a rookie who played through the byes but would be surprised if he made many best 18s. Can safely wave him goodbye this week.

Patch: TRADE – Get outta here, buster. Spike game my arse.

TM: SELL – Looked like that spike score we’ve waited 15 weeks for was finally on when he was 40 at halftime against Fremantle, but it didn’t eventuate.

TO: SELL – Well done on reaching Kako’s bye. Take your $80k profit and say goodbye.

MF: SELL – The slow burn is done, he’s reached his bye and it’s time to ship Kako off.

Shai Bolton $455,400 FWD-MID

AP: CONSIDER – Swapping him to Sam Darcy or Jason Horne-Francis is a clear upgrade, but watch that trade count.

Patch: CONSIDER – If you got trades and a finished team, sure. Otherwise, hold.

TM: CONSIDER – CBAs have dropped right off in the past two weeks but I’m not convinced Corey Wagner is going to be in there tagging every round. I’d probably sell if it got you JHF, though.

TO: CONSIDER –.He would be a good Flex with some big scores every now and then. But if you have an extra trade handy, his role hasn’t been as good for SuperCoach in recent weeks.

MF: CONSIDER – Another trap of 2025. Four 100s in five weeks, promptly followed by three scores under 80 in four games. Hayden Young is coming back soon which hurts, but maybe you can’t afford to trade him.

MOST TRADED IN

Tom McCarthy $99,100 DEF-MID

AP: BUY – It breaks a long-time SuperCoach rule but do NOT wait for him to play two games. Bubble shmubble, get those points now.

Patch: BUY – A million times yes.

TM: BUY – There is literally no reason you shouldn’t do this. He’s taking kick-ins for one of the worst teams of the modern era who have conceded 26 scoring shots or more in four of their past six games – including to Richmond. Could average 95-plus in a filthy role.

TO: BUY – An absolute must-have.

MF: BUY – Not the No.1 priority since he’s not on the bubble, but he’ll score the best. Gotta get him, either this week or next week.

Mani Liddy $99,100 MID

AP: CONSIDER – I prefer Bo Allan for his DPP, but if the extra $20k is the difference in making your next trade, go for it.

Patch: BUY – Sure? He seems nice, and is $99k.

TM: BUY – Would have scored 65-plus if he didn’t concede a pretty stiff 50m penalty against the Swans and looks like he will provide decent cover late in the year when trades are running low.

TO: BUY – Another $99k gem at the end of the year.

MF: BUY – Looks like he’s in the best 23 now, which is great for us. And he’s basement price. He’s the No.1 buy this week.

Sam Darcy $459,700 FWD

AP: BUY – Way underpriced for what he can deliver and the Dogs play six more times at Marvel Stadium.

Patch: BUY – He’s tall. He’s good. He’s in my team.

TM: BUY – Not getting on last week was pretty disastrous but at least you can buy Darcy are a slightly cheaper price. Still has plenty of juicy fixtures in the run home.

TO: BUY – Just looks like a fun own.

MF: CONSIDER – Not a must have, but a very cheap premium option. Should be on the watch list.

Callum Mills $395,500 DEF

AP: BUY – Has a great role across half-back and still cheap.

Patch: BUY – I was wrong, Mills is a must-have. Currently plotting how I get him.

TM: BUY – There was one stage in the game against Port Adelaide where he told Nick Blakey to go away so he could take a kick-in. I’m paraphrasing slightly, but it was a beautiful sight. Millsy has always been a good scorer, it’s just his body we’re worried about.

TO: BUY – Yeah, he is the real deal.

MF: CONSIDER – I’m not sold on him personally, especially playing alongside Errol Gulden after his comeback.

Marcus Bontempelli $586,300 MID

AP: BUY – Cheapest he’s been all year. If you can get him in one or two trades it’s a huge yes. If you need three it’s still probably yes.

Patch: BUY – I love you Marcus.

TM: BUY – I’ve said this about 12 times this year but there’s never a bad time to buy Bont.

TO: BUY – His cheapest price for a long, long time.

MF: CONSIDER – James Jordon tag coming? Break Even is 102 but playing Sydney this week.

Sam Butler $126,600 FWD

AP: BUY – My forward bench hasn’t produced SuperCoach points in a long time. Weighing up whether to use a trade to bring him in for some kind of cover on the run home.

Patch: BUY – Foz says he should play and that’s good enough for me.

TM: BUY – The Hawks have been a better team with Butler in the side and he had 33 per cent CBAs in his two games before the bye.

TO: CONSIDER – Will be fighting to stay in Hawthorn’s side, but his role is a good one.

MF: BUY – He’s in the best 22 and he’s playing half-forward with some midfield minutes. Scores won’t be elite but they will be consistent.

Archer May $99,100 FWD

AP: CONSIDER – I prefer Butler – who has a better role and is playing this week – unless you really need that $27k.

Patch: BUY – Bombers surely give him a decent run.

TM: BUY – Surely Essendon keeps giving him games after a pretty encouraging showing against the Dockers.

TO: WAIT – If you’re getting two $99k rookies this week, think McCarthy and Liddy are ahead of May, who is on the bye.

MF: WAIT – If you want him, get him next week after the bye.

Jack Macrae $493,300 FWD-MID

AP: BUY – No.3 scoring forward this year on averages and the role is super reliable. I’ve got him ahead of JHF.

Patch: BUY – Good footballer has returned and is good at football. More at 6.

TM: BUY – Might be a better option than Jason Horne-Francis this week if you traded both when they were injured.

TO: BUY – Put 160 on Freo earlier this year.

MF: CONSIDER – Sub $500k forward who’s averaging 108? Not bad. But it was his first ton since round 8, after an injury stint.

Jason Horne-Francis $472,600 FWD-MID

AP: CONSIDER – Remember all that pre-season talk about his scoring potential with a boost in CBAs? In his two games back from injury he’s been at total of six. Suspect he gets a run in there soon, but it is a potential red flag.

Patch: BUY – Normal caveats apply but he’s less than $475k. That’s a bargain.

TM: BUY – Plays Carlton this week and I could probably get a kick against the Blues right now. Don’t love how much he’s been playing forward, but he still manages to score big.

TO: BUY – That injury-affected score of 22 is out of his cycle now so it is time to buy if you want him.

MF: CONSIDER – This is as cheap as Horne-Francis will get, so if you want him, now is the time.

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera is averaging 109 this season. Picture: Paul Kane/Getty Images
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera is averaging 109 this season. Picture: Paul Kane/Getty Images

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera $550,300 DEF

AP: BUY – Averaging 122 over his past four games and I can see a huge run coming as he takes over from Jack Sinclair as the Saints’ main SuperCoach weapon.

Patch: BUY – My best starting pick, just about.

TM: BUY – There aren’t many seagull types in SuperCoach that I admire but Nas is one. Wins his ball through elite workrate.

TO: CONSIDER – Not as cheap as a few other picks this week like Mills, JHF and Darcy, but has been on fire over the past month.

MF: CONSIDER – He’s not getting any cheaper than this, and he’s going to be a top-10 defender. If you want him, buy him now.
