SuperCoach AFL 2024: Big winners and losers from round 4

Some of the biggest names in the game shone in the lights of Gather Round while rookies stepped up when it counted – if you had the right ones. See who fired and who flopped.

The second best 22 round of the season is in the books with some massive scores, some shockers and plenty of surprises.

Who starred and who stunk this week?

WINNERS

ISAAC HEENEY – 168 POINTS

We put him here every week but how can you leave out the highest-scoring player of the round? Heeney was good in the first half and unbelievable in the second and now earns a well-earned rest at Sydney’s bye with an average of 144.2 – the best in the game.

TOM LIBERATORE – 155 POINTS

Libba was subbed off at three quarter-time last round, perhaps to keep him fresh for the clash against Geelong. If that was the tactic, it worked. He was enormous at the coalface, finishing with 35 disposals, 28 contested possessions, nine tackles and a goal.

CONNOR ROZEE – 152 POINTS

Port Adelaide’s three-headed monster of Rozee, Zak Butters and Jason Horne-Francis scored a combined 403 points against Essendon. The new Power captain led the way this week with 36 disposals and three goals.

NIC MARTIN – 133 POINTS

If you traded Martin out after two quiet games to start the year, look away now. Barely takes a rest and covers huge territory to rack up 35 disposals this week after 40 the week before.

SHAI BOLTON – 133 POINTS

If extra points were awarded for moments of skill that just make you shake your head, Bolton could be the top scorer in SuperCoach. As it is four goals and eight score involvements from 19 touches at 84 per cent efficiency is enough to bag a whole lot of points.

CHARLIE COMBEN – 129 POINTS

The North Melbourne big man had never scored a SuperCoach ton in four injury-cursed seasons but played the game of his life against Brisbane, finishing with 25 disposals, eight marks and five tackles.

JEREMY SHARP – 126 POINTS

The former Sun has had a great season on the wing for the Dockers, and features in 39 per cent of SuperCoach teams, but only 37 per cent of those owners had him on field this round. A late goal almost won the Dockers the game and gave him a big points boost, and the 63 per cent who missed out on the score can at least get the benefits of his huge cash generation.

SAM CLOHESY – 108 POINTS

What a performance from the first-gamer from Werribee. A rookie draft recruit at age 21, he was one of Gold Coast’s best players against GWS with 22 disposals, eight marks and a goal. He’s shaping as one of the year’s biggest SuperCoach bargains.

HARLEY REID – 91 POINTS

There was some talk about trading the No.1 draft pick but the most popular player in SuperCoach will be around for a while yet.

LOSERS

LUKE JACKSON – 91 POINTS

His lowest score for the year and he will have to share ruck duties with Sean Darcy from next week. A big decision looms for his 78,000 owners.

TOM STEWART – 77 POINTS

Stewart spent some time off the ground in the third quarter having his hamstrings treated, which goes some way to explaining a score well under the odds for the master defender. He should bounce back against North Melbourne next week.

HARRY McKAY – 75 POINTS

The incredible run couldn’t last. Harry went goalless against the Dockers as his poor career history at Adelaide Oval returned to haunt him.

DARCY PARISH – 72 POINTS

A proven SuperCoach premium scorer, Parish has battled after a late start to the season, scoring 80 and 72 in his two matches. Watch his price – he could be a massive bargain in a few weeks.

JAYDEN SHORT – 66 POINTS

Short found more of the footy this week – 24 disposals – but it didn’t help his score much. Now averaging 81.6 for the year – and 69.5 since opening round.

CLAYTON OLIVER – 62 POINTS

Oliver scored over 170 in his past two games against the Crows at Adelaide Oval, but he isn’t the same player this season. Another possible bargain at some point but it’s hard to get into top gear after such an interrupted pre-season.

JAMES JORDON – 57 POINTS

Did the return of Taylor Adams from injury rob Jordon of some of his SuperCoach points? Regardless, it’s time to trade him ahead of Sydney’s round 5 bye.

JACK MACRAE – 37 POINTS

How the mighty have fallen. One of the best scorers in the game for the past eight seasons only came on late after starting as the sub.

TOM PAPLEY – 12 POINTS

No, that isn’t a misprint. And Papley wasn’t injured in the first give minutes of the game, either. He played 81 per cent of game time and had 10 disposals – but only one hit the target. Giving away three free kicks didn’t help his cause, either.
