As we enter 2025, a key theme for both players and SuperCoach managers is opportunity. Whether through change of club, evolving roles, or the misfortune of injuries, the new season presents numerous chances for players to maximize their output.
For SuperCoaches, seizing these opportunities early will be crucial for accumulating points and boosting team value from the outset when the competition starts on Thursday.
By capitalising on these emerging opportunities, coaches can set up their teams for a strong start to the 2025 season, taking advantage of key player changes and favourable fixtures.
The following players are expected to deliver just that.
Defenders
HARRY PERRYMAN | DEF | $417,500
Formerly of GWS, Perryman has made the move to Collingwood in 2025, embracing a new challenge as an inside midfielder. Having signed a six-year contract, Perryman is set to add defensive pressure in a midfield already stacked with talent like Nick Daicos and Jordan De Goey. In the pre-season, Perryman showcased his potential, recording 10 tackles, 20 possessions, and a goal in the Pies’ AAMI Community Series match against Richmond. Listed as a defender in SuperCoach, Perryman could prove to be a discount-priced premium if he thrives in his new role. While his early bye, shared with Sydney, initially posed a concern, the rescheduled Lions vs Cats game due to Cyclone Alfred has made this fixture conflict much easier to manage.
SAM DE KONING | DEF | $361,100
De Koning is an intriguing mid-priced defender option for 2025, particularly after his impressive shift from key defender to ruck in round 15 last season. Averaging 95.4 points over five games, De Koning’s potential is clear. With Toby Conway sidelined due to a back injury, De Koning is set to take on a larger ruck role, which could lead to consistent, solid scores. Moreover, De Koning’s potential to gain Defender-Ruck (DPP) eligibility adds flexibility for fantasy teams. While the presence of veteran Rhys Stanley might limit his ruck time in some match-ups, De Koning’s performance could make him a strong mid-price option if he locks down the Cats’ No.1 ruck position.
Midfielders
CONNOR ROZEE | MID | $529,400
After a breakout season in 2023, Rozee’s 2024 campaign fell below expectations, partly due to a hamstring injury. However, with Rozee fully recovered and an injury sidelining star teammate Zak Butters, he is primed to step up as Port Adelaide’s main playmaker. With a proven ceiling – seven games over 140 points in the past three seasons – and a favourable early fixture, Rozee is a valuable asset for SuperCoach teams, offering the potential for strong early-season returns.
JAMES PEATLING | MID | $352,800
Another former Giant, Peatling has made a high-profile move to Adelaide, where he will enjoy more security and a defined role. While Peatling has been used in various positions, he is expected to take on a more prominent spot on the wings and in the midfield for the Crows, in a similar vein to Hugh McCluggage at Brisbane. In 2024, Peatling averaged 65 points, but remove games he was used as the sub and that jumps to 90.6 points per game. If given the right role, he could be a great value pick. However, with established midfielders like Jordan Dawson, Matt Crouch and Izak Rankine in the mix, Peatling’s prospects may depend on the health of these players. Should injuries arise, Peatling could become an appealing option for SuperCoach teams.
OLIVER HOLLANDS | MID | $333,300
Oliver Hollands offers strong potential as a mid-price option for 2025. After transitioning to a half-back role at Carlton in the latter stages of 2024, Hollands impressed with a four-game average of 93.5 points. Following the season-ending injury to Nic Newman, Hollands is expected to assume a more prominent role in defence. His solid early fixture and potential to gain dual position (DPP) eligibility early make him an attractive target. If Hollands continues his impressive form in defence, he could offer excellent value at his current price.
Rucks
MATT FLYNN | RUCK | $261,900
After three years with the GWS Giants, Matt Flynn joined the West Coast Eagles in 2024, but played only four games in an injury-interrupted first season in the west. In 2025, he will be given the opportunity to take on the primary ruck role. At 27 years old, Flynn is priced at a competitive $261,900, presenting great value for SuperCoaches looking to fill the R2 or Flex position. Flynn has shown he can score consistently when given the opportunity. However, concerns over his ability to maintain fit throughout the full season, as well as the competition from Bailey Williams for the top ruck spot, will be key factors to monitor. If Flynn can stay healthy and maintain his form, he could prove to be a strong addition to SuperCoach teams.
Forwards
COREY WARNER | FWD | $148,700
The younger brother of superstar Chad Warner has extended his contract with the Sydney Swans until 2027. Having spent much of his career as a substitute in his nine-game tenure, Corey now has the opportunity to cement a regular spot in the senior team, especially with Sydney’s growing injury list. Warner has shown promise at VFL level, averaging nearly 20 disposals across 43 games, and in his past 14 VFL appearances, he scored at least 87 fantasy points in nine games. With an expanded role, Warner could be a great value pick for SuperCoach teams, particularly in the forward line. Warner scored 50 SuperCoach points against Hawthorn in opening round.
SAM DAVIDSON | FWD | $113,500
Davidson is another exciting option, especially given the Bulldogs’ injury crisis. With departures and injuries affecting the team, Davidson is expected to feature regularly in the Bulldogs’ best 22. In his first pre-season match, Davidson impressed by collecting 29 disposals and kicking a goal. A standout performer in the VFL, Davidson won the prestigious Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal in 2024, averaging 14 disposals, three marks and three tackles per game while booting 26 goals. As a 22-year-old utility, Davidson has shown he is ready for AFL action and should be a key fixture in SuperCoach teams.
