The Bulldogs are flying home towards a top-four finish, and they have what could be a big hidden advantage on other finalists: depth.
Jack Macrae has been on the fringe of the senior side all season, playing mostly outside the centre square and starting as the sub in round 19 – resulting in a score of just eight SuperCoach points, his lowest return in 11 years.
But after returning to VFL level he showed he hasn’t lost his ability find the footy.

Playing as a full-time midfielder, Macrae had 43 disposals against Casey, plus 18 contested possessions, six tackles, 10 score involvements and 155 SuperCoach points.
First-year gun Ryley Sanders went even better, posting 169 points from 39 touches, seven clearances and kicking 3.3 in front of goal.
Macrae has played two VFL matches this year for an average of 177 SuperCoach points after he posted 199 from 46 disposals against the Giants in round 1. Sanders averages 131 in four VFL appearances.
It was a big day for the Dogs in the VFL, with Oskar Baker (31 disposals, two goals) scoring 139 SuperCoach points, and Harvey Gallagher (25 disposals, two goals) 136. Joel Freijah will find it tough to win his spot back after scoring 84 from 14 disposals.
Essendon is suddenly another tough team to break into, but a trio of midfielders staked their claim for a senior recall in the VFL win against the North Bullants.
Will Setterfield racked up 43 disposals and 151 SuperCoach points, while Ben Hobbs had 34 touches, a goal eight tackles and 122 points. Elijah Tsatas had 32 disposals at 81 per cent efficiency for 104 SuperCoach points.
It is a fifth straight 30-plus disposal outing for Tsatas in the VFL, who is primarily used as an inside midfielder at VFL level but a winger or substitute when called up to the AFL side.
In other key performances at state league level on the weekend (noting that Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Collingwood, Geelong, Richmond, St Kilda and Sydney all had the week off):

NICK Haynes has fallen out of favour at GWS but he continues to put up strong numbers in the VFL, posting a round-high 172 against Box Hill from 39 disposals, 12 marks and 13 spoils.
