AFL SuperCoach 2019: Who to trade in and out of your team after Round 14

The byes are over. Hallelujah. With that in mind, it’s time for SuperCoaches to go for broke and find that winning combination — and there’s some key names every squad should have.

The byes are done.

Finally, we can now select players without any issues as we busily try and get all our rookies off field and have a fully-upgraded team.

Just because they are a premium it doesn’t mean that they get a free pass! If they don’t perform, they risk us rage trading them out!

BOOT HIM

Jack Darling

Despite a 135 a few weeks ago he has had 4 games under 72 in the last six weeks and his 42 this week shows just what can happen with key forwards. Even though they were in control of the game he couldn’t find a way to score. He is just too inconsistent to be in your side.

Dylan Shiel

Just one score over 100 in the last 7 games for Shiel. He just can’t crack that 100 mark this season. He managed 22 touches at just 72% efficiency which didn’t quite get the job done this week. With this being his first score over 70 in the last three weeks you should cut your losses and move him on.

Lance Franklin

Buddy left the game in the third quarter and had ice on his troublesome left hamstring. This is the second time this season and last time he missed 4 games and it could be just as many again. You can’t hold him if it is confirmed he will miss games.

David Mundy

We mentioned him last week and again this week he has had a low score. 12 of his 17 touches were handballs and he didn’t use it well going at just 64%. This is now four games in a row under 100. His great run seems to be over and time to move him out.

Jack Newnes

Newnes is still in several teams but shouldn’t be. He hasn’t been over 75 since round 7 and a 28 this week is the icing on the cake. Plain and simple you need to remove him from your teams as soon as you can.

Luke Dahlhaus

Last time he had a score like this one his next two were both under 90. If history repeats you don’t want that in your side. He had a tough night against the Power, but he wasn’t alone. It may be worth moving him out as they have another tough matchup against the Crows this week.

BUY HIM

Elliot Yeo

With 6 of his last 7 games being over 115 he has had a great season so far. Many didn’t want to select him as he lost his defender status, but he is averaging more than enough to be a part of your Supercoach midfield.

Luke Parker

We were concerned at how Parker would score with Josh P Kennedy back for the Swans this week. But he showed us that he can be the number one in the midfield with his 30 touches and 12 tackles. This extends his 120+ run to 5 games.

Angus Brayshaw

Back to back scores over 100 and he is an absolute bargain price still. With all of us struggling with cash generation he could certainly help us out. While there were a few Demons that outscored him these are promising signs. If you want to pick him up, then this would be the week.

Luke Ryan

Ryan has been consistent lately and he was great again this week. He is a consistent option down back and has had three huge scores so with such a high ceiling he is a great option for you. He should finish in the top 6 defenders down back this year.

Robbie Gray

While his cheapest price was a couple of weeks ago, he has been scoring very well since returning from injury. He is still very cheap and on Saturday night he did spend long periods on the ball even with Wines and Ebert back. If this trend continues, he could be one of the bargains of the forward line this season.

Mitch Duncan

Duncan was one of only three Cats to top the 100 mark this week. He is still priced at around his starting value thanks to missing his huge 155 BE this week. He will still be affordable for one more week but if you have plans on bringing him in don’t hesitate too long.

Jack Macrae

If you aren’t already aboard the Macrae train then it is time to jump aboard. After a 150 and now a 148 his BE will plunge, and his price will rise quickly. He is back to playing the way we thought he would at the start of the year. With he, Dunkley and Bomtempelli all in that midfield they can’t all be tagged each week.

Premium Rucks

Many people were holding out until at least the byes and hoping to get by without one of either Grundy or Gawn. I think this week has clearly demonstrated that you need to have both guys in your side. This is the time to get them.

PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR ANOTHER WEEK

These guys aren’t buys or boots just yet, but they are ones that we should just keep a close eye on.

James Sicily

This is the second game in a row that Sicily has started up forward which is a massive concern. He also gave away 4 free kicks. When he went back in the last quarter, he did score better but the game was already gone. Hopefully he can start down back next week and return to his good scoring.

Marty Hore

Hore has been great recently but his 49 this week wasn’t what we had gotten used to. This was his lowest score of the season, and it will see his BE rise sharply. He has done a great job for you but don’t be afraid to move him out if you have a good upgrade option. Equally he could bounce back so don’t be afraid to hold if that is what suits your long-term plans.

Dan Hannebery

Hannebery returned to AFL football and was very handy indeed with 27 possessions. At a bargain price he could be a popular selection in coming weeks but just hold off for now as we need to see how he backs up before we jump on board.

Lachie Neale

If you have plans to get him in but haven’t done it yet then just hold for now. He had a BE of 124 going into this week but scored his second 79 in four weeks meaning he will drop in value this week and possibly the next couple of weeks as well. As we all know cash is hard to come by this year and waiting a week or two on Neale will really help you in that respect.

ROOKIE WATCH

Time to Trade

Jack Petruccelle BE 61 Scored 59

We have been saying to move him out for a while now. He won’t make you much in the way of money but if you want to hold him for bench cover that is all he can help you with.

Noah Answerth BE 37 Scored 38

Two scores in a row in the 30s and making his BE by just 1 point isn’t great reading for Answerth owners. It looks to be time to cash in the Lions Mid/Def player and upgrade him in which ever line you can get the best value.

Jordan Clark BE 77 Scored 46

He may have been an option to keep as bench cover, but his last two scores haven’t been great, and he is now losing a lot of value. He is a 50:50 option as to whether you use him on your bench, but you need to make that decision this week before he loses more money.

Gryan Miers BE 50 Scored 27

Miers is in the same boat as Clark, although Miers has been up and down in his scoring recently. His 27 will see him lose value and his BE rise so you may want to move him on this week. We have seen him dropped for form by Scott recently and odds are that after his 6 possession game with only 33% being effective he may find himself in the VFL this week.

Bailey Smith BE 101 Scored 36

Definitely time to go. He has had two low scores in a row and isn’t going to make you any more money now. He is still in 7% of teams which is too many for this stage of the season and his scoring levels.

On The Bubble

James Rose — Scores of 47 and 67

A couple of solid scores from Rose but he probably isn’t on a lot of radars.

Griffin Logue — Scores of 93 and 103

No questions asked here. Jump aboard! Great scoring and has great job security.

Nick Hind — Scores of 43 and 90

Hind is a player we were all waiting on and he has delivered in his second game. If you need a mid-downgrade this week, he is your man.

Joel Garner — Scores of 65 and 50

While his scoring has been good it is the time between games and no obvious job security that has us worried. He may stay in the side, but he is bench cover at best.

Rookies on Watch

Matthew Parker BE was 58 scored 61

He has been progressively traded out of teams over recent weeks, but this could be it. He has served owners well and hopefully you can now cash him in to a premium.

Xavier Duursma BE 72 scored 75

Duursma continued his great season but he is now very close to his BE and having maxed in value. There are two very valid options here, one is of course to cash him in but the other is to hold him as bench cover as he is going to play every week and is scoring well enough to save you if you need him.

Connor Rozee BE 106 scored 91

Rozee was very close to being in the time to trade section, but like Duursma he will provide some great bench cover. His BE was high due to the 44 in the previous week against Fremantle and after the next game his BE should drop again. You can cash him in, but he will be a viable bench option for you on the run home.

All Rookies need to be played during this part of the season. But we will still split them to show who helped you and who didn’t.

Jay Lockhart 108, Griffin Logue 103, Josh Begley 95, Connor Rozee 91, Nick Hind 90, Tom Atkins 82, Nick Blakey 76, Xavier Duursma 75, Jarrod Cameron 69, Dylan Moore 69, Brett Bewley 68, James Rose 67, Callum Wilkie 65, Darcy Moore 64, Matthew Parker 61.

Sit Him
