Several players have declared their hand ahead of trade period, nominating the clubs they wish to join. But how soon will they get their wish and will there be a deal on day one?

See who every club is chasing during this year's trade period.
See who every club is chasing during this year's trade period.

The free agency window has already opened and the trade period will kick off on Monday with a number of big-name players looking to switch clubs this off-season.

Who is your club chasing and who is looking for a fresh start at a rival team?

We give you the rundown on every club’s plans during this year’s trade and free agency period.

ADELAIDE

GONE: Richard Douglas (contract not renewed); Andy Otten (retired); Paul Hunter (delisted); Cam Ellis-Yolmen (Brisbane).

IN PLAY: Sam Jacobs (GWS) and Ellis-Yolmen (Brisbane) leave as free agents, Alex Keath has agreed to a four-year deal with the Western Bulldogs, Hugh Greenwood is seeking a move to Gold Coast, Josh Jenkins has parted ways with two years left on his contract, and star veteran Eddie Betts is almost certain to return to Carlton. Riley Knight has had talks with Sydney coach John Longmire, while Brad Crouch is linked to the Suns.

TARGETS: Port Adelaide key forward Billy Frampton is the No. 1 target.

BRISBANE LIONS

GONE: Luke Hodge (retired)

IN: Cam Ellis-Yolmen

IN PLAY: Tom Cutler will return to Victoria — possibly to Carlton or Essendon. If Lewy Taylor gets an offer from Sydney he should take it. Ryan Bastinac looks gone while Nick Robertson, Josh Walker and Allen Christensen are just hanging on.

TARGETS: Ellis-Yolmen is officially in. Jamie Elliott, who toured the Lions on Saturday, has been offered a three-year deal. Brisbane’s quick rise might mean there’s no need to replace Hodge with Hawk Grant Birchall. Medicos are confident they can get Callum Ah Chee’s ankle right. Recruiters want to package pick 16 with other picks to rise up the order.

CARLTON

GONE: Alex Fasolo, Dale Thomas, Tom Bugg, Jarrod Pickett (retired); Jarrod Garlett, Pat Kerr, Kym LeBois, Matthew Lobbe, Angus Schumacher (delisted)

IN PLAY: Out-of-contract back-up Andrew Phillips could join Essendon for greater contract security

TARGETS: Missed out on big fish Stephen Coniglio, but Operation: Snare a small forward has seen Tom Papley, Eddie Betts, Jack Martin and Dan Butler all in negotiations with the Blues. Homesick Papley wants in after a family health issue, but the Swans are refusing to deal a player with four years to run on his contract. Carlton met Sam Jacobs, but he’ll join GWS.

COLLINGWOOD

GONE: Tyson Goldsack, Daniel Wells (retired); Sam Murray (delisted).

IN PLAY: Jamie Elliott is the biggest name to emerge this week — Melbourne and Brisbane are in the mix for the small forward. He has received a three-year offer from both clubs and is considering his options. The Brodie Grundy talk just won’t go away, either, after another week in which the ruckman declared his wish for a seven-year deal at Collingwood.

THE TARGETS: Uncontracted Sydney tall Darcy Cameron would be the ideal back-up for Grundy. He has confirmed he wants to be traded to the Pies as he seeks more game time.

ESSENDON

GONE: Mark Baguley, Matt Dea, David Myers, Luke Lavender (retired); Ben McNiece, Jordan Houlahan (delisted).

IN PLAY: Joe Daniher has officially requested a trade to Sydney. The injury-prone star forward shapes as the biggest domino of the trade period. Fellow goalkicker Orazio Fantasia is changing management and could be headed back to South Australia.

TARGETS: Priority is for an inside mid. Port Adelaide utility Dougal Howard has been linked to several Melbourne clubs and might help facilitate a Fantasia trade, while the Bombers have met Blues ruckman Andrew Phillips.

FREMANTLE

GONE: Hayden Ballantyne, Harley Bennell, Scott Jones, Shane Kersten, Ryan Nyhuis (delisted); Aaron Sandilands (retired).

IN PLAY: Brad Hill has requested a trade to St Kilda and Fremantle is likely to play hard ball because he’s still got two years to run on his contract. The Saints have pick No. 6 which will help their cause. Ed Langdon is keen to get to Melbourne, which might have to give up pick 22.

TARGETS: Richmond’s Kamdyn McIntosh is a likely target, despite his two-year contract extension in July. Out-of-contract Tiger Connor Menadue has been linked to the Dockers. Star Cat Tim Kelly has nominated West Coast as his club of choice but Freo will still have a dip at him.

GEELONG

GONE: Jordan Cunico, Jamaine Jones, Scott Selwood (delisted)

IN PLAY: This time Tim Kelly is out of contract and surely West Coast won’t stuff it up by haggling over second and third-round picks. His departure will give the Cats a stronger foothold in the first round of the draft. Out of contract Wylie Buzza, Lachie Henderson and Zac Smith are in limbo.

TARGETS: Saints midfielder Jack Steven will arrive with an element of risk after a season plagued by off-field issues, but he’s long wanted to move to the Surf Coast and will remind everyone of his supreme talents if he can piece things together away from the game.

GOLD COAST

GONE: Michael Rischitelli (retired), Brad Scheer, Jack Leslie, Connor Nutting (delisted)

IN: Brandon Ellis (Richmond)

IN PLAY: Callum Ah Chee will be traded to Brisbane. Jack Martin wants to join Carlton, but will the Suns get the first-round pick they crave? Jack Lukosius will stay despite SA interest. Inquiries are already coming for Ben King 12 months out from the end of his contract.

TARGETS: With Ellis and Hugh Greenwood (Adelaide) just about ready to pick out their lockers, picks 1 and 2 should be used on best mates Matt Rowell and Noah Anderson, instead of trading one of those picks for Crow Brad Crouch.

GWS GIANTS

GONE: Adam Tomlinson (Melbourne); Brett Deledio, Dawson Simpson, Dylan Buckley (retired)

IN PLAY: Should receive pick No. 38 as compensation for Tomlinson, and will ask for a third-round pick from Hawthorn for Jon Patton. Their departures helps free up cash for out-of-contract stars Lachie Whitfield, Zac Williams and Jeremy Cameron next season. It wouldn’t surprise if Williams, and possibly Cameron, sign new deals quickly.

TARGETS: Shane Mumford will be reduced to back-up next season when Sam Jacobs crosses from Adelaide on a two-year deal. GWS must have enough draft points for Canberra-raised academy gun Tom Green, who will receive a top-10 bid.

Grant Birchall has had two seasons ruined by injury.

HAWTHORN

GONE: Jarryd Roughead (retired).

IN PLAY: Grant Birchall, 31, has been significantly hampered by hamstring injuries and has reportedly been given the green light to explore his options in coming weeks. Paul Puopolo is out of contract. Isaac Smith’s name was linked to a move but that seems unlikely.

TARGETS: Jon Patton has confirmed he wants to be at Waverley. A deal has to be reached to get the Giant back to his eastern suburbs roots, but it should get sorted. Demon Sam Frost has also confirmed that his manager has spoken with Hawthorn.

MELBOURNE

GONE: Jordan Lewis, Corey Maynard, Tim Smith (retired); Jeff Garlett, Declan Keilty (delisted).

IN PLAY: Sam Frost played every game and finished ninth in the B&F but has been deemed expendable. He will cross to Hawthorn.

TARGETS: The Demons sorely lacked outside run and skill this year and will try to fill that void. Docker Ed Langdon and Giants utility Adam Tomlinson will this week join the Dees, where they will play on either wing. Melbourne has also presented a three-year deal to highly-skilled, but injury-prone Magpie forward Jamie Elliott, who is weighing up his playing future.

NORTH MELBOURNE

GONE: Sam Wright, Scott Thompson, Declan Watson (retired), Tom Wilkinson, Nathan Hrovat, Red Og Murphy (delisted).

IN PLAY: It’ll be a quiet trade period for the Kangas, who have re-signed in-demand stars Todd Goldstein and Shaun Higgins and want to take their picks to the draft.

TARGETS: No godfather offers this year although Port’s Dougal Howard would be a logical replacement for Scott Thompson. But there’s a belief that Majak Daw could step into Thompson’s shoes. Coach Rhyce Shaw mentored Sam Murray in the NEAFL in 2017, could they have a dip at the delisted Collingwood halfback?

— Sam Landsberger

PORT ADELAIDE

GONE: Jack Trengove, Cam Hewett, Kai Pudney (delisted).

IN PLAY: Paddy Ryder wants to join St Kilda, and the Saints are also favoured to land Sam Gray. The Crows are hot on the heels of Billy Frampton. Dougal Howard has spoken to several clubs, including Essendon and North Melbourne, but Port is unlikely to let him leave unless it is part of a deal for Bomber Orazio Fantasia. Sam Powell-Pepper has been linked to Essendon.

TARGETS: Fantasia is still under contract for two years at Essendon. The Dons won’t let him leave cheaply and if he does want to go they will likely ask for Howard and a draft pick.

RICHMOND

GONE: Shaun Grigg, Maverick Weller (retired); Brandon Ellis (Gold Coast).

IN PLAY: Two-time premiership free agent Ellis is off to the Gold Coast on a bumper deal. The Tigers will get pick 39 as compensation. Ellis’s 2017 premiership teammate Dan Butler has toured Carlton, while Kamdyn McIntosh and Connor Menadue are in Fremantle’s sights.

TARGETS: A tight salary cap and an embarrassment of riches will see the Tigers lay low this trade period. Loosely linked to Sydney’s Zak Jones but unlikely to afford him even if a deal with the Saints falls through.

ST KILDA

GONE: David Armitage (retired); Billy Longer, Lewis Pierce, Sam Rowe (delisted).

IN PLAY: Four-time best-and-fairest Jack Steven wants to get back home to the Surf Coast, it’s just a matter of a deal getting done with Geelong. Forward Josh Bruce also wants to get to the Western Bulldogs.

THE TARGETS: Power ruck Paddy Ryder and his cousin, Fremantle speedster Brad Hill, have both nominated Moorabbin as their destination of choice. Swan Zak Jones — who barracked for the Saints as a kid — is also in St Kilda’s sights, but it could have to stave off a late charge from Richmond.

SYDNEY

GONE: Heath Grundy, Kieren Jack, Jarrad McVeigh, Nick Smith (retired); James Rose, Durak Tucker (delisted).

IN PLAY: Sydney is fighting tooth and nail to keep 2019 leading goalkicker Tom Papley, despite his desperation to join Carlton. Zak Jones is likely to join St Kilda despite late interest from Richmond. Uncontracted emerging ruckman Darcy Cameron wants to join Collingwood.

TARGETS: The Swans have the arsenal to work a trade for Joe Daniher. They can use the first-rounder they could get for Papley, the second-rounder for Zak Jones, combined with their existing pick No.5.

WEST COAST

GONE: Patrick Bines, Chris Masten, Fraser McInnes, Brodie Riach (delisted).

IN PLAY: West Coast will look to turn its picks 14, 24, 33 and a future first-round selection into some picks good enough to land homesick Geelong star Tim Kelly. Andrew Gaff had been mentioned in speculation because of his 2020 out clause, but that was quickly knocked on its head.

TARGETS: Like he did 12 months ago, Kelly has requested a trade to West Coast. The Cats aren’t going to let Kelly go without a fight and have indicated a package of the Eagles’ pick No. 14 and future first-round selection is not likely to get the deal done.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

GONE: Tom Boyd, Liam Picken, Dale Morris (retired)

IN PLAY: List boss Sam Power re-signed the 16 players he wanted to, so the Dogs have little to offer. Nervous waits for Tory Dickson and Fletcher Roberts. Roarke Smith might earn a one-year new deal.

TARGETS: Tom Boyd handed back more than $2 million when he retired in May and part of that will be splashed on Saint Josh Bruce and Crow Alex Keath. If Dogs can turn picks 32, 43 and 48 into both, it would help protect next year’s draft points for Buddy Franklin-like academy star Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and father-son Ewan MacPherson. Get the feeling a line is out for another big fish.
