Ollie Wines will ‘100 per cent’ be at Port Adelaide next season despite exit rumours, his manager says

Rumours have suggested Port Adelaide co-captain Ollie Wines may be gettable in the trade period. But his manager says they’re incorrect and he will “100 per cent” be at the Power in 2020.

Ollie Wines’s manager has rubbished rumours the Port Adelaide co-captain may be on his way out of the club.

Speculation in recent weeks has suggested Power co-captain Wines, 24, is gettable during next month’s exchange period despite him re-signing last year until the end of 2022.

But his manager Nick Gieschen said exit talk was completely off the mark.

“It’s unequivocally not happening … 100 per cent,” Gieschen told The Advertiser.

“It’s not even worth discussing.

“Ollie loves it there, he’s captain, loves the group and loves Kenny (Power coach Ken Hinkley) … and Port love him.”

This season injuries, including a dislocated shoulder from a pre-season waterskiing accident, broken ankle in round six and fractured thumb in round 17, restricted Wines to just 12 games — his fewest in a campaign since joining the Power via pick seven at the 2012 national draft.

Port finished 10th with an 11-11 record.

“It was obviously a difficult year with injury but he’s really excited by next year and really keen to bounce back and lead the boys next year,” Gieschen said.

Port broke with tradition by appointing Wines as co-captain with Tom Jonas in February.

Hinkley and Power chief executive Keith Thomas have said the club would re-examine the captaincy model for 2020 — the club’s 150th anniversary.

Wines last Friday told FIVEaa he had enjoyed the role and being able to bounce ideas off Jonas.

“But it will get reviewed, like it does every year, and when we need to make that call, we’ll make it according to what’s going to win us the most games,” Wines said.
