ADELAIDE midfielder Hugh Greenwood has officially requested a trade to Gold Coast.
Greenwood has been heavily linked to the Suns ahead of the opening of next week’s trade period and the Crows have now confirmed the 27-year-old wants out of South Australia.
“The club is committed to securing an appropriate outcome for both parties and will work closely with Greenwood and his management team during the upcoming trade period,” A statement from the Crows read.
Greenwood has played 51 AFL games since the former basketballer joined Adelaide as a category B rookie in 2015.
Meanwhile, Essendon great Matthew Lloyd says alarm bells will be ringing if Ben King hasn’t re-signed with the Suns three-quarters of the way through next season with the highly touted talent eager to see improvement in the struggling club.
Gold Coast will be under enormous pressure to retain King and Jack Lukosius, taken with picks six and two at last year’s national draft, with both yet to sign contract extensions.
Speaking on Trade Radio Matthew Lloyd, a close friend and mentor to King, said the ambitious 19-year-old was a high achiever who wasn’t just satisfied with being on an AFL list.
“He is not a wide-eyed kid just happy to be on a list playing some games,” Lloyd said.
“He wants to see some success and by success I don’t mean playing finals next year but they want to see growth of the club.
“He ran in the AFL sprint. He is a kid who loved the opportunity the Suns have given him but they are a high achieving family.
“It’s a quality family but they are also a high achieving family. They want to see improvements (next year) to try and get his signature mid-season.
“If it gets to three quarters of the way thought the year and the two of them still haven’t signed well alarm bells will be going off you would have thought for the Gold Coast.”
Matt Rowell said he would be happy to play for Gold Coast who look likely to use the top two picks of the upcoming national draft to secure him and Oakleigh Chargers teammate Noah Anderson.
“It would be really special if both of us could play at the same club,” Rowell said on Trade Radio.
“I look forward to playing for any club. Gold Coast look like they’re going through a culture change and it looks like a really positive environment, they look like they’re on the up.”
