Glenn Archer couldn’t keep it together when his son Jackson gave him the news he is making his AFL debut this weekend.
Archer, one of the toughest players the game has known with a physique composed primarily of granite, was in tears as he learned his son’s dream will come true on Sunday when the Kangaroos play Adelaide at Hobart’s Blundstone Arena.

The North Melbourne legend won two premierships with the Kangaroos across his 311-game career and was named ‘Shinboner of the Century’ for his service to the club.
A video posted by the football club showed exactly how much his son’s big news meant to him.
The video captured the moment Jackson video called his dad to let him know.
Archer is visibly emotional in the video after Jackson says “I’m playing this weekend”.
“You’re kidding,” he says.
When it finally sunk in, Glenn began to tear up.
“Hang on, mate, sorry, had something stuck in my throat,” he said.
“That’s fantastic mate, well done. You bloody deserve it. You’ve worked really hard.
“Love you.”

Jackson also needed to take in some deep breaths when the emotion of the moment appeared to become too much.
The best reaction of all came in Jackson’s next phone call with his mum.
She initially believed he was playing a prank.
“You’re not? Your first game? Jackson don’t talk s*** Are you really?” she said.
“I’m so proud of you. That’s so good.
“We better all book our flights.”
Jackson was drafted with the No. 59 pick in the 2021 Draft as a father-son selection.
