In the latest boon of the rising Suns, two of the club’s emerging stars have been named in the inaugural AFL Player’s Association AFLW 22Under22 team.

IN the latest boon of the rising Suns, two of the club’s emerging stars have been named in the inaugural AFL Player’s Association AFLW 22Under22 team.

Ruck Lauren Bella and forward Kalinda Howarth have both been named in the final side which seeks to recognise the next generation of AFLW talent.

To be eligible, players must be aged 22 or under for the entirety of the season with the line-up voted by fans.

Howarth finished as the Suns leading goalkicker in her debut season with nine majors - the third most of anyone in the league.

Her flashes of brilliance gripped the league and led to her being nominated for the AFLW rising star award on the back of a three-goal performance in the inaugural Q-Clash.

Bella finished the season with 130 hit-outs, the most of any ruck in the competition and improved with each performance.

Midfielder Jacqui Yorston was also named in the initial squad of 31 players but just missed out on final selection.

The Suns have the chance to pick up more individual silverware tonight with the AFL Players Association awards set to be held online.

Howarth, Jade Pregelj and Jamie Stanton have all been nominated for the Most Valuable Player award while Pregelj is also in the mix for the league’s most courageous.

Kate Surman has been nominated for the best first-year player award while Sam Virgo and Leah Kaslar are both up for the AFLW’s best captain.

Voting for the AFLW MVP, Most Courageous, Best First-Year Player and Best Captain awards is a two-stage process, with players nominating their teammates in stage one before selecting from a competition-wide field in stage two.
