Jeremy Cameron to sign long-term deal to stay at GWS Giants, shunning Victorian interest

Jeremy Cameron’s Victorian suitors are set to be left disappointed with the 2020 free agent set to sign a long-term deal which will make him a Giant for life.

Coleman medallist Jeremy Cameron is poised to become the next million-dollar long-term signing.

The Giants forward would become a free agent if he chose to fall out of contract at the end of the 2020 season, but it’s fully expected he will remain at Greater Western Sydney.

The Giants’ offer to Cameron is similar to what Collingwood has offered Brodie Grundy — six or seven years at a fraction below $1 million a season.

The Herald Sun revealed on Tuesday that Grundy would officially sign a seven-year deal with the Pies when he returned from an overseas holiday early next month.

No time line has been set for Cameron to commit, but both the Giants and Cameron’s management appear satisfied with the current talks.

It’s believed several Victorian-based clubs have inquired about Cameron’s plans beyond next year.

His manager, Alex McDonald from Hemisphere management, indicated on Thursday that Cameron’s future would be at the club that recruited him as a 17-year-old.

“Currently, Jeremy couldn’t he happier with the Giants and living in Sydney,’’ McDonald said.

“Jeremy hasn’t put a time line on discussions (but) I’m sure it will all play out in time.

“I have left him alone over the break. He has been enjoying a well-earned break chasing the fish.’’

A renowned fisherman, Cameron’s has previously spoken about the ideal balance he has between his football career, his favourite hobby and his love of Sydney.

His girlfriend is also said to enjoy the Sydney lifestyle.

Concerns that he could be lured away from the Giants with a better financial offer a rival club are not apparent at the Giants.

Cameron rejected lucrative rival offers and signed a five-deal with the Giants in 2015, which was the first long-term commitment from a foundation player.

The powerhouse forward’s signature would continue the brilliant list management at the Giants.

They have signed Stephen Coniglio until the end of 2026, Toby Greene and defender Nick Haynes until the end 2024, Harry Himmelberg until the end of 2023, young gun Tim Taranto until the end of 2022 and earlier this year announced Josh Kelly’s two-year contract extension, which also carries a multi-year option.

The Giants are also confident dynamic midfielder Lachie Whitfield will agree to yet another long-term deal to stay at the club.

Defender Zac Williams is another of the core group which they also expect to lock away.
