He was slammed by footy greats for attacking Sydney star Dane Rampe’s injured hand and now the AFL’s Match Review Officer has handed down his verdict on St Kilda defender Jake Carlisle’s “stupid” act.

St Kilda defender Jake Carlisle has escaped with a $500 fine for his targeting of Swans co-captain Dane Rampe’s broken hand.
Rampe played just days after having surgery and was cleared as fit to play, with Carlisle’s actions in attempting to hit the Swan on his gloved hand slammed as “stupid” and “a shocking look for the game”.

Match review officer Michael Christian on Sunday slapped Carlisle with a $500 fine – down from $750 with an early guilty plea – for misconduct.

The gloved Rampe, on Monday, had surgery to insert a plate and screws into the third metacarpal on his right hand after he broke it during a herculean effort against Hawthorn last weekend.
The 30-year-old, who is in All Australian form, was attacked by Carlisle, who slapped at his injured hand during a melee in the Saints’ win over the Swans.
Western Bulldogs games record holder Brad Johnson said times had changed since his former teammate Steven Kretiuk targeted injured Essendon great Matthew Lloyd in 2002.
He said the action from Carlisle was “not a great look”.
“It’s not fair game,” Johnson said on Fox Footy.
“You just can’t be doing that.
“Rampe’s teammates had to come to his defence to try and get him out the way.
“Yes he’s playing injured, they already know that, but I’m not a big fan of that.
Four-time Hawthorn premiership legend Jordan Lewis said Carlisle was “just stupid”.
“There is nothing to achieve there, it’s a shocking look for the game and it just didn’t need to happen.”
Brisbane’s Mal Michael and Chris Scott also were involved in an unsavoury incident when both men went out of their way to bump the injured shoulder of Nick Riewoldt in the 2005 season opener at the Gabba.
The controversial incident saw the St Kilda captain forced from the ground. It was later discovered he had fractured his collarbone while diving for a mark in an earlier passage of play.
RUCKS COMMAND AS SAINTS DOMINATE SWANS
The Saints have solidified a top four spot with a dominant 53-point over the Swans at the Gabba on Saturday night in what was their third straight win.
Commanding ruck duo Paddy Ryder and Rowan Marshall continued their dominance in the middle of the field to help the Saints to their sixth win this season in the 15.11 (101) to 6.12 (48) victory.
A run of five goals on the trot in the second quarter helped the Saints to a 22-point lead by halftime.
A third quarter resurgence by the Swans – who had 15 inside 50s and kicked 26 points – sent a slight scare through the St Kilda camp but by the final quarter, the Saints piled on six goals to the Swans’ one in an emphatic finish.
Saints coach Brett Ratten said he was impressed by his side’s win but there was still plenty to improve on.
“The way we finished the game was really pleasing,” Batten said.
“The third quarters are a little bit of a worry so that’s one part of the game we need to clean up.
“That was a very good performance tonight but it wasn’t four quarters.”

Even the loss of prolific St Kilda midfielder Seb Ross, who was ruled out with a calf injury in the warm up, could disrupt the red-hot St Kilda side.
GOOD HINDSIGHT
St Kilda’s Nick Hind was one of their best at the Gabba on Saturday night.
He kicked a crucial goal in the third to stem a resurgent Swans and finished the game with two more goals to his tally.
Having a hand in another goal proved pivotal to the Saints win and the 25-year-old is becoming a force to be reckoned with in the Saints forward line.
Ratten said it was a career-boosting performance.
“Hind’s performance in the game was a standout,” batten said.
“It was one for him to really get his career going and he grabbed that game by the scruff of the neck and had a big impact on that game.”
RYDING HIGH
The two big men in the Saints ruck Paddy Ryder and Rowan Marshall again continued their dominance in the middle of the ground.
The Ryder-Marshall alliance is only a handful of games old but they looked seamless together as they gave their side plenty of territory dominance.
Ryder finished the match with 19 hit-outs.

FORWARD PRESSURE
By halftime, the Saints had 30 inside 50s to the Swans’ 17 which epitomised their ascendancy during the early stages of the game.
The trio of Jack Billings, Zak Jones and Hind (three goals) were dangerous all night and the Swans could do little to stop them.
Young gun Max King also proved a handful, kicking three goals while Jack Steele and Jade Gresham (23 touches and two goals) also steered the Saints to a win.
PAPLEY’S MESSAGE
Sydney’s Coleman Medal leader Tom Papley wore a black armband in Saturday’s game against St Kilda in memory of a friend who took his own life this week.
“A mate I used to play against, Tyson Bale, he took his life during the week and my heart goes out to Bob Bale and his family and the Dusty’s Football Club (Warragul Industrials Football Club) and all the boys back home – stick together and you’ll get there,” Papley told Fox Footy as he fought back tears.
“And to anyone out there, if you’re feeling down or anything, put your hand up, people are out there to help.”
