Hefty suspension for Surfers Paradise’s Matthew Green for his sling tackle on Broadbeach player in the QAFL

A Surfers Paradise player has been suspended for nearly half of the regular QAFL season for a sling tackle. READ THE FULL DETAILS

SURFERS Paradise ruckman Matthew Green has been suspended for three games for his sling tackle on Broadbeach QAFL player Nic Burton.

Green will miss three of the four remaining regular season games due to the reduced length of the season on the back of COVID-19.

Demons coach Brad Moore said it was a fair result and Green was expecting a substantial suspension.

Moore said Green was remorseful and had contacted Burton this week in the wake of the sling tackle that led to the suspension.

Burton will miss Saturday’s clash with Palm Beach Currumbin because of concussion.

Broadbeach were leading by 56 points over Surfers Paradise in the fourth quarter at Subaru Oval on Saturday when Demons ruckman Matthew Green made two questionable sling tackles, both to Burton, that left the Cat unable to continue.

Burton managed to bounce up from the first but with his arms pinned in the second, and without the football, his head connected heavily with the turf, leaving him with whip lash.

Cameron Topping will replace Green in the ruck for the Demons who will play Mt Gravatt at Dittmer Park.
