Harley Reid's disrespectful acts on Eagles teammates

Harley Reid has shown why he is now the AFL’s don’t argue king.

The 19-year-old West Coast sensation was at his explosive best on Saturday as the Eagles played an intraclub match.

Reid lined up alongside his more senior teammates in the gold jerseys, with the 2023 number one pick stealing the limelight throughout the contest.

The young star has endured an interrupted pre-season with lower leg issues and a concussion, but he gave Eagles fans a glimpse of what’s to come in season 2.

On several occasions Reid burst away from a centre clearance as he drove the ball deep inside forward 50.

But it was his electric don’t argues that really got fans going. Several teammates found themselves on the receiving end with Ryan Maric being dumped to the turf in the process.

And then one for you.

Reid ultimately played three quarters of the intraclub with his team in gold running away with the comfortable 21.13 (139) to 10.5 (65) win.

Eagles co-captain Liam Duggan said it was good to see Reid back influencing the contest.

“He was good. We just try to let him play footy and do what he does,” Duggan said after the intraclub match.

“We saw the fend off come out, I went up to Ryan (Maric) who he got pretty nicely and we’ve all been there with Harley so there’s no embarrassment around it.

“It’s good that Harley is back there just doing his thing. I tried one (fend off) on Loch Rawlinson and he mowed me down, so it’s contagious but some of us can do it and some can’t.”

While all eyes were fixated on Reid, fellow young gun Reuben Ginbey was showcasing just how damaging he can be.

Lining up across halfback, Ginbey had a hand in almost everything for the team in blue jerseys.

The 20-year-old continually showed off his explosive pace and damaging left foot as he sliced his way around the ground.

But it wasn’t just on the ground where he was doing the damage as he rose above the pack to take a stunning hanger.

Ginbey, like Reid, has endured a turbulent pre-season with the Eagles defender coming under heavy fire last week over a “cowardly” act against the Tigers.

As Richmond streamed forward, No. 1 draft pick Sam Lalor ran towards a marking contest with Ginbey close behind.

But as the pair drew closer to the fall of the ball, Ginbey pushed Lalor which saw the prized pick slam head and neck first into the right hip of Eagles player Sandy Brock.

Lalor was ultimately placed into concussion protocols as fans called for the league to look into the ugly incident.

Thankfully for the Eagles there was no investigation and Ginbey will be free to line up for the club in week one.
