THE Gold Coast Suns have unveiled David Swallow and Jarrod Witts as their 2019 co-captains.
Swallow has long been touted as a future captain after arriving at the club in 2010 ahead of the club’s inaugural season, while ruckman Witts will serve alongside him after being part of the 2018 leadership group.
The pair, both 26, will be assisted by vice-captains Pearce Hanley and Touk Miller, who many had tipped to join Swallow in the top job.
The eight-man leadership group is rounded out by Alex Sexton, Jarrod Harbrow, Brayden Fiorini and George Horlin-Smith.
Suns chief executive Mark Evans said commitment to the club had played a crucial role in the selection process after 2018 co-captains Tom Lynch and Steven May decided to depart in the off-season.
“Both David and Jarrod are extremely invested in our football club and are committed to helping us become a team that truly inspires the Gold Coast community,” Evans said.
“Over the past 18 months we’ve undertaken a deliberate, but significant reset of our football programs, and it’s exciting to see a number of new additions to our leadership group.
“We believe David and Jarrod, with the support of the leadership group, will play a pivotal role in shaping our future. They all display the attributes we are looking for and we congratulate them on their appointments.”
More to come.
