IT’S Gold Coast’s biggest dilemma ahead of the AFL’s season restart - where to play Brayden Fiorini?

The young gun, likened to Collingwood’s Scott Pendlebury throughout his young career, is set to return to the midfield when the Suns play West Coast at Metricon Stadium on June 13.

Fiorini has spent his career in the midfield but opened the year by playing in the backline in Round 1 against Port Adelaide.

It came off the back of Gold Coast’s increased depth in the middle, injuries to defenders and his own slow build from off-season groin surgery.

But the 22-year-old has been training with the midfield group since the team returned to full training last week.

Suns football manager Jon Haines said Fiorini would remain in the middle after welcoming back the likes of injured defenders Jarrod Harbrow, Pearce Hanley, Rory Thompson, Charlie Ballard and Jack Hombsch.

“Brayden is a really important player for us and has good flexibility so he has moved back into the midfield group since we returned,” Haines said.

“He played back in Round 1 given Pearce, Harbs, Rory and Ballard were all missing.

“All of those guys should be available now so we know Brayden can play halfback and midfield so that gives him flexibility but at the moment he has gone back into the midfield group and that is where we expect to see him playing his footy.”
