THE Gold Coast Suns have crowned their newest club champion.

Suns life member Jarrod Harbrow has become the fourth Suns player to win Gold Coast’s club champion award.

The respected defender, who finished runner-up to Tom Lynch in 2016, was in the spotlight at Gold Coast’s annual awards at Southport Sharks on Saturday night, just days after signing a new two-year deal with the Suns.

Harbrow scooped the awards, claiming the top gong as well as the club’s community award and player’s player title while also being officially presented with his life membership.

The 30-year-old, who is the first defender to win the title, polled 390 votes to beat midfielder Touk Miller (351) and Lachie Weller (336).

Harbrow joins Gary Ablett, David Swallow and Tom Lynch on the list of Suns club champions.

Harbrow played in all 22 games of Gold Coast’s season and was among the best virtually every game, continually backing up his tough defensive efforts by rebounding quickly and breaking lines.

Gold Coast’s five-man match committee award casts votes to an unlimited number of players per match.

The voting process changed slightly in 2018, with each player being eligible to receive a maximum of 10 votes from each individual member of the match committee, meaning the maximum number of votes a player can receive for any match is 50.

In previous years a player could only receive a maximum of five votes from an individual member of the match committee.
