SUNS captain Jarrod Witts says the team won’t shy away from their abysmal performance against Richmond but urged the playing group not to throw the towel in now.
Gold Coast were thumped 23.12 (150) to 9.4 (58) by the Tigers at Metricon Stadium, slumping to an 11th straight loss and potentially the worst of Stuart Dew’s two-year tenure so far.
Witts, one of few Suns to put in a respectable showing, didn’t mince his words when speaking about the 92-point shellacking.
“It’s disappointing. Our first two quarters weren’t good enough and not the standard we want to set for anyone, whether it’s us as a team, coaching staff, the staff who work really hard for us and obviously the fans,” Witts said.

“It’s not good enough. We will go back to the drawing board for us but we have great faith in these guys that we will rock up Monday and face it then move on.
“It was just not good enough. We didn’t even give ourselves a chance which was disappointing.”
Witts and fellow co-captain David Swallow gathered the players together in the immediate aftermath of the game to deliver their own blunt message.
“We had a few words. It was Just about staying together, about trying to get back to what we trust Monday to Friday and eventually it will turn for us,” Witts said.
“We can’t afford to throw in the towel now and playing the blame game. We all take responsibility for ourselves, this team and our club and we won’t shy away from that performance we put out there.

HAVE THE SUNS FOUND ANOTHER COACH?
“I’m really confident from the boys if we keep driving the standards and work hard it will turn for us.”
In a further blow to the Suns, Wil Powell injured his right knee in the dying stages of the first quarter and didn’t return, putting the rest of his season in doubt.
“Wil has been one of our really consistent performers and someone who hasn’t played many games but he was carrying a high load,” Witts said.
“He has had a good year to date and it’s disappointing for him.”
