WHEN Georgia Breward ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament in 2018, her then NSW/ACT teammate Alexia Hamilton was right by her side.
A year on and both nominated for the state of Queensland at the 2019 AFLW draft.
As Breward watched the draft with her sister from their home in northern New South Wales, Hamilton was drafted to the Suns with pick 38.

And only a few draft picks later, the two were teammates once more.
“She was playing with me when I did my ACL and was there when it happened so it’s pretty awesome going full circle and I’m really happy for her,” Breward said of her national’s teammate.

“I think she really deserves it.”
Since suffering the injury at the National Championships last year, Breward has been commuting to and from the Gold Coast from her home in Lawrence to rehabilitate the injury.
The 18-year-old managed to fully recover just in time to play the last game of the QAFLW season with her team the Coolangatta Bluebirds.
But the fleeting appearance left Breward uncertain about her draft chances until her name was read out at pick 91.
“It’s been a long journey,” she said.
“Considering I’d only played half a game in a year, I wasn’t sure.
“It felt amazing and I’ve been waiting for my name to be called out for a while now.”
Now Breward is preparing to grab her first full pre-season in years ‘by the horns’ and fight for a round one debut.
“I haven’t done a proper pre-season in a couple of years now because of where I live and I’ve had school and then my injury,” she said.
“For a long time I couldn’t run with an ACL and I had shin splits recently so I’m actually really keen to get my fitness up.”
After fighting so hard to claim her spot on the Suns list, Breward is now focused on being one of the 22 names set to make history for the Suns come round one next year.
“My dad keeps saying ‘you haven’t made it until you run out on the field,’” she said.
“On game day I’m really nervous but once I’m out there, I’m fine.
“I’m very high strung when it comes to footy because I really love and care about what I’m doing and want to perform well for the team.”
