THE father of Suns player Brayden Crossley says the family has been left devastated by his positive drug test but staunchly claims he is innocent.

Crossley is facing a drug ban after returning a positive test for a cocaine metabolite from a urine sample taken before Gold Coast’s May 25 NEAFL game against the Sydney Swans.

The club had previously said Crossley was on personal leave, with his absence shrouded in mystery while he has been on a provisional ban since June 29.

Crossley’s father, Troy Crossley — a Southport Sharks Hall of Famer — said the whole family was hurting but defended his son’s innocence as they push for the results of a B-sample taken three weeks ago.

“There will be a lot more to come out,” Crossley said.

“(Brayden) is not responsible (for the positive test). We are totally confident Brayden is innocent. He doesn’t have the ability to lie.

“We have pinpointed where we think it’s come from. We just want the results back (for the B-sample).

“They (ASADA) have had it for three weeks. Everyone is hurting at the moment. As a family we are devastated but there is more to it.”

Crossley was a Burleigh Bombers junior and Palm Beach Currumbin senior player before being drafted by Gold Coast with pick 52 of the 2017 national draft.

The 19-year-old played 10 AFL games in 2018 but has been unable to add to that this season.
