Clubs look set to have more than 350 players to pick from in next Wednesday’s mid-season rookie draft.

An updated nominations list featuring 340 players was circulated to clubs on Wednesday night, with a further 12 nominations still being processed by the AFL.

The updated list adds a raft of ex-AFL players including Dan McKenzie (St Kilda), Tom Highmore (St Kilda), Trey Ruscoe (Collingwood), Riley Collier-Dawkins (Richmond), Phoenix Spicer (North Melbourne) and Boyd Woodcock (Port Adelaide).

There are currently 61 players who have nominated for long-term contracts until at least October next year.

Every other player has nominated for a short-term contract until this October.

A final list of approved nominations will be circulated on Monday, along with an order of picks after the ladder order is confirmed following this weekend’s matches.

There were 13 players selected in last year’s mid-season draft, with Ryan Maric joining West Coast with the No.1 selection.

Former Port Adelaide ruckman Brynn Teakle and ex-Sydney defender Matt Ling loom as the most likely players to earn an AFL lifeline.

Teakle, who trained with Collingwood in pre-season but was overlooked for a supplementary selection period spot, is one of 24 players who will undergo medicals before the draft.

Ling, a first-round draftee from 2014 who played four games for the Swans, will also undergo medical testing.

In five SANFL games for Norwood this year, Ling has averaged 19 disposals, four marks and three tackles.

Teakle has been one of the dominant big men in the WAFL, averaging 36 hitouts and 123 ranking points in six matches.

Collingwood VFL high flyer Jack Hutchinson, WAFL backmen Jasper Scaife and Jacob Blight and Geelong Falcons ruckman Joe Pike are among the leading hopefuls who will undertake medicals.

Former Gold Coast Suns-listed defender Jez McLennan has also attracted some interest, while Osca Ricardi (ex-Geelong), Arlo Draper (ex-Collingwood) and Kyle Dunkley (ex-Melbourne) are among other familiar names on the list.

Pike did his chances of being selected no harm last weekend when he made his VFL debut for Geelong.

Recruiters were left impressed after the 19-year-old racked up 11 disposals, 30 hitouts (10 to advantage) and kicked two goals against Coburg on Saturday.

Peel Thunder defender Jacob Blight was also on the early nominations list and has received some attention from AFL clubs after a strong start to the season in the WAFL.
