Crows, Kangaroos, Demons all express interest in Gold Coast’s pick 10

Gold Coast’s pick 10 is for sale. Who has the goods to trade up and secure one of the draft’s best talents? And could it be part of a bigger play for Harley Reid?

North Melbourne could make an aggressive play for Gold Coast’s No. 10 draft pick to hand the Roos enough trade collateral to offer an enticing bid for West Coast’s No. 1 pick.

Gold Coast on Monday traded the No. 4 overall pick and a trio of third-round picks to the Dogs for their picks 10, 17 and a future first-rounder.

Immediately clubs including Adelaide, North Melbourne and Melbourne were clamouring to obtain that No. 10 pick for their own needs.

Adelaide has picks 19 (Tom Doedee compensation), 22 and 25 and could use them to secure pick 10, then take only picks 9 and 10 to the national draft.

Melbourne has picks 13, 26 and 34 and could consider using some of that trade hand to secure the pick 10 to add to its No. 5 overall draft haul.

But only the Roos seem a chance to hand the Eagles the kind of package that might turn West Coast’s head on the No. 1 overall pick.

The Roos could offer pick 14 and a future end-of-first-round pick as a starting point to taking the Suns pick 10.

Then the Roos would have pick 2, pick 3 (Ben McKay compensation), pick 10 and pick 20 (part of their AFL assistance package).

They could offer 2 and 10 to the Eagles as a starting point to allow West Coast to secure local key back Dan Curtin while also taking another pick in the top 10.

West Coast recruiting boss Rohan O’Brien said on Monday the Eagles would not put an exact price on the No. 1 overall pick when asked if the club wanted three top-10 picks to release a pick that could secure Vic teen Harley Reid.

He said the Eagles would listen to all offers but also backed in their own culture to retain non-WA players drafted to the club.
