Collingwood and Essendon have received boosts with both clubs getting special dispensation from the AFL to keep a Category B rookie on their rookie list for a season beyond the usual limits.
Former basketballer Tom Wilson will be allowed to stay on the Magpies’ rookie list, while Irish Essendon player Cian McBride has permission to stay with the Bombers on the proviso that both players must go through the national draft.
The league cited stunted development through Covid-19, as well as injury in the case of Wilson, as reasons for granting the requests.
A key defender, McBride is yet to play a senior match.
Wilson, 25, has played seven games for the Pies, making his debut last year.
