Inside midfielder George Stevens is continuing to push his case to be a top-20 draft pick this year after producing another monster match for Greater Western Victoria Rebels in the Coates Talent League on the weekend.
Stevens recorded the most SuperCoach ranking points of any player across round 14, racking up 191 points as he helped lead his side to a 76-point demolition of Geelong Falcons on Sunday.
Stevens’ stats sheet showed 36 disposals (18 contested), three marks, 12 clearances, 14 groundball gets, seven tackles, 11 score involvements and one goal.
Recruiters have mixed views on Stevens, with his lack of speed being one key concern.
However, the 189cm onballer’s footy IQ, cleanliness, ball-winning ability and proffesionalism are all highly rated.
Stevens played all four matches for Vic Country during the recent under-18 national championships and was named on the bench in the All-Australian team.
“He’s got a lot to like,” Rebels coach David Loader said of Stevens last week.
“We know the question mark is the speed. But if you can change something when you’re in a full-time environment, it’s certainly that.”
Bottom-age midfielder Levi Ashcroft was another standout performer over the weekend with 36 disposals, six marks, six clearances, three tackles, seven score involvements and two goals for a total of 169 ranking points.
The Sandringham Dragons product is a father-son prospect for Brisbane Lions next year as the son of three-time premiership player Marcus and younger brother of first-year star Will.
