BRAD Scott’s case of foot in mouth on Friday night isn’t the first case of AFL coaches behaving badly.

Scott is sure to come under intense pressure after falsely claiming that umpires had told his players that Lindsay Thomas would not get freekicks because of his reputation as a “ducker”.

Those claims have since been retracted by the club.

However, there’s been plenty of previous cases in recent years of coaches letting their emotions getting the better of them.

BRAD SCOTT

“I know he is (unfairly treated), because the umpires told our players, ‘well, he’s a ducker so we don’t pay high kicks to Lindsay’.” Those words will haunt Scott for years to come. The Kangaroos were forced into an embarrassing backtrack on Saturday because their coach was told fourth hand of a conversation that never happened and decided to go with it in a national televised press conference. The only question left is how does the AFL penalise Scott.

ALASTAIR CLARKSON

Alastair Clarkson can be a fiery customer at the best of times but his short fuse was blowing at lightning speed one weekend in July 2012. On the Saturday, Clarkson showed his frustration with his players by punching a hole in the wall of the MCG coaches box. The following day Clarkson verbally abused a 19-year-old umpiring official at an under nines football match. The South Metro Junior Football League banned Clarkson for four matches after the incident.

JUSTIN LEPPITSCH

The Lions coach is under the pump at the moment but one incident last season certainly isn’t helping his cause. The Lions coach clashed with Lions midfielder Zac O’Brien during a NEAFL game. Leppitsch manhandled O’Brien during the half-time break of a game in May, 2015 but escaped sanction as both coach and player expressed their regret at the incident. “I’ve yelled at him a little bit and grabbed his shirt, and that was inappropriate. It’s not something that I’m proud of,” Leppitsch said of the incident.

MICK MALTHOUSE

Fair to say neither Mick Malthouse nor Stephen Milne were proud of their efforts at quarter-time of a match in 2010. Malthouse called the Saints forward a “rapist” during a heated exchange and was subsequently fined $7500 by the AFL. Milne and Magpies assistant Paul Licuria were fined $3000 after all three were found guilty of “engaging in aggressive or threatening conduct”.

Milne was fined $15,000 with no conviction recorded in 2014 for indecently assaulting a woman in 2004.

NATHAN BUCKLEY

Jarrod Witts may stand at a massive 208cm but he was made to feel pretty small after a brutal spray from Nathan Buckley in 2014. With Collingwood falling behind against Hawthorn, Buckley stormed towards Witts who was on the bench. What followed was an almighty bake from Bucks, who grabbed Witts by the jumper and then aggressively demanded a better effort. Witts then sat down before copping one more ear bashing from Buckley. The Magpies went on to lose the game by 29 points and Witts finished with 12 disposals.
