The Adelaide Crows are in all sorts of trouble in 2024.

After missing out on a spot in the finals last season, fans were hoping the club would go a step further this year.

The only place to watch every game of Gather Round is on Fox Footy via Foxtel or Kayo Sports available on Hubbl.

Unfortunately the opening month has shown that not only haven’t they taken that step forward, they’ve gone a long way backwards.

The Crows led the league in scoring throughout the 2023 season, kicking on average 13.9 goals per game as they peppered the big sticks.

It now appears they have an intolerance to kicking goals with the club dropping to the second worst average in the competition.

Their lowly average of 7.75 goals per game sits only ahead of the West Coast Eagles who are kicking an average of six goals a game.

On Thursday night, their inability to convert in front of goal was once again in the spotlight as Gather Round kicked off at Adelaide Oval.

After an arm wrestle of an opening quarter that saw them hold a slender five-point lead, the Crows couldn’t keep up when the Demons upped the ante.

The Dees had 11 scoring shots in the second quarter, kicking four goals to the Crows one to go into the halftime break with a 17-point advantage.

Things didn’t get any better for the locals in attendance as one of the premiership contenders slotted another four goals to push the margin out.

As all hope looked lost, the Crows found their groove in the final quarter and completely flipped the script.

Goals to skipper Jordan Dawson and Josh Rachele ignited the Adelaide crowd as the home team grabbed the contest by the scruff of the neck.

Sadly accuracy was the Crows undoing as they managed only two goals despite having seven shots.

In the end, their spirited efforts fell short, suffering a fourth straight loss with the Dees claiming the 10.18 (78) to 8.15 (63) win to move to 4-1 on the season.

David King couldn’t believe just how far the Crows had fallen off after the club showed promising signs in the latter stages of 2023.

“The story for me is the Adelaide Crows, what has happened to them in one off-season?” King said on Fox Footy.

“If they were a racehorse you’d put them out for a spell. They just haven’t come up with the preparation, they’re 0-4 now and then you start talking about the game plan.

“Is it the system? Is it the personnel? What’s missing … because they’re not the powerful and punishing team of 2024 as they were last year.”

Leigh Montaga added: “I just wonder now if when we look at Adelaide this year if there was a bit of overrating their list and their talent.

“You look back and go the talent at the top end had really good years and you wonder if that covered the cracks of some of these other players.

“Now when they need others to stand up there’s probably just not enough there.”
