AFLQ Schools Cup: We take a look at the best and brightest Gold Coast juniors representing our schools

We take a look at the best and brightest Gold Coast juniors representing our schools at the 2020 AFL Queensland schools cup.

The 2020 AFL Queensland Schools Cup is in full swing with SEQ invitational gala days dominating the action this week.

Five Gold Coast schools are set to fly the flag for our region with Miami State High, Palm Beach Currumbin State High, Helensvale State High, Pacific Pines State High and Varsity college all boasting multiple teams across the four days of competition.

Today we’re taking a look at the most talented seniors and juniors running around for the Gold Coast as they prepare to lift their schools to victory.

KIALLA-SKYE BAILEY

School: Helensvale State High School

Team: Senior Girls

Bailey comes from a netball background and currently plays for the Southport Sharks AFC at club level. Bailey can be play anywhere on the ground and will always get the job done. She loves getting her hands on the footy as a rover and driving out of congestion, where she naturally burns her opponents with her speed and agility. She’s a naturally smart player who reads the play well. Bailey is a big team favourite, not only for her skills but also her team spirit.

MIA GILES

School: Palm Beach Currumbin State High School

Team: Senior Girls

Giles is a smart and courageous forward with exceptional hands both in the air and at ground level which make her a difficult match up. She boats a great attack on the ball mixed with speed and agility which allow her to find the goals in pressure situations.

LUCY SINGLE

School: Miami State High School

Team: Senior Girls

A combination of competitiveness, elite speed and agility and tough tackling sums up Lucy Single as a footballer. Can play anywhere on the ground but has excelled for Bond University as an inside midfielder in the QAFLW.

JOSH FAHEY

School: Palm Beach Currumbin State High

Team: Senior Boys

Fahey boasts electric speed and a driving left foot. He’s an exciting prospect as an outside midfielder or rebounding half back flank.

AIDEN FYFE

School: Helensvale State High School

Team: Senior Boys

Currently in year 12, Fyfe is a crafty on ball/forward who kicked a goal on the siren to win last year’s schools senior state championships in the final against PBC. Fyfe was selected in the National academy draft and has been playing senior footy with the Broadbeach Cats and has even posted best on ground performances in the quality QAFL senior competition. Fyfe has been attending Helensvale SHS and in the Helensvale AFL academy since he started in year 7.

Tara Harrington

School: Palm Beach Currumbin State High

Team: Junior girls

Agile, smart and brave. Harrington has exceptional hands for her size and is difficult to tackle in tight situations. A state player in the Under 14s as a bottom age, Harrington can play any position.

Kira Thornton

School: Helensvale State High School

Team: Junior girls

A Southport Sharks player Thornton is new to the game coming from a track and field background. She is a strong girl with no fear and attacks the ball hard. She is an agile natural ball winner with a long kick when needed. Thornton can be found in the middle or kicking goals forward. This girl loves to put on a show no matter the score line. Thornton is a player not only to watch in the schools cup competition but has the skill and ability to play at a much higher level in the future.

Chloe Slack

School: Pacific Pines State High School

Team: Junior girls

Captaining her side, Slack is an onballer with plenty of drive for the game of Aussie rules. She is super fit and can dominate the clearances and win stoppages with her ability to break lines. She is a ferocious tackler. Slack has been responsible for repeat entries inside attacking 50 and can manage to rally the troops both on and off the field.

Nyalli Milne

School: Varsity College

Team: Junior girls

Milne is a very versatile player. She usually plays key position, either centre half forward or centre half back but can also play in the midfield. She has excellent speed and a penetrating kick, the sort of player you want at both ends of the ground. A terrific player and a great leader.

JAI MURRAY

School: Palm Beach Currumbin State High School

Team: Junior boys

Murray is a big bodied, athletic midfielder with superb hands. He’s a great overhead mark who can dominate in the air.

KY NICHOLLS

School: Helensvale State High School

Team: Senior Girls

Nicholls is a smooth midfield player with a very high AFL IQ. He is a leader within the team, a very courageous young footballer and is very hard to tackle. Nicholls also has an older brother Rhys who is in the senior boys AFL program and is a national academy draft player so AFL talent runs thick through his blood.

FINLAY GRAY

School: Miami State High School

Team: Junior Boys

Half back who reads the game well and is strong overhead with reliable kicking skills.

Zai Millane

School: Varsity College

Team: Junior Boys

Millane is a top class midfielder. He possesses elite skills on both sides of his body. Zai has great hands and takes the game on. He’s easy to spot, sporting a great permed mullet!
