AFL trade news 2023: Melbourne free agent James Jordan nominates Sydney Swans

A number of clubs were chasing Demons midfielder James Jordon, but the free agent told Melbourne of his preference on Thursday. Get all the details here.

Melbourne free agent James Jordon has chosen the Sydney Swans as his next destination.

The 22-year-old midfielder spent five years on the Demons’ list after being taken as the 33rd pick in the 2018 draft.

He was at Melbourne for two seasons before being moved on to their rookie list ahead of the 2021 season.

He made his debut in round one that year and went on to play every game for Melbourne in their 2021 premiership campaign. In total, he appeared 65 times for the Demons.

Jordon was a Rising Star nominee in 2021, finishing eighth overall in the standings behind soon-to-be Sydney teammates Errol Gulden and Justin McInerney.

There were several clubs keen on Jordon’s services, but as an unrestricted free agent, he has chosen to move to the Harbour City. He informed the Demons of his decision on Thursday.

His signing provides the Swans with a versatile midfielder who can play multiple roles.

With co-captain Callum Mills expected to be out for the first half of the 2024 season, Jordan could find himself coming straight into the side.
