AFL teams: All the ins and outs for round 12

Melbourne has dropped four players after its first loss of the season, and two big names are back for Hawthorn to face the Pies. See all the round 12 teams here.

Melbourne defender Christian Salem has been named to return for his first AFL game since Round 1 as the Demons swung five changes for Saturday night’s clash with Sydney.

Having finally overcome a knee injury which required surgery, Salem has been named on the bench for his long-awaited return.

A premiership player last year, the rebounding defender polled a vote in the Norm Smith Medal voting in last year’s Grand Final after logging 27 disposals, seven marks and seven rebound 50s.

Melbourne has also regained James Harmes (hamstring), Ed Langdon (ribs) and Tom McDonald (ankle) from injury, while defender Adam Tomlinson returns after being an emergency the past two weeks.

The Demons swung the axe on the back of last week’s first loss of the season to Fremantle to make way for the inclusions, with Trent Rivers, Jake Melksham, Toby Bedford and Sam Weideman all dropped, joining Steven May (concussion) on the list of outs.

James Harmes and Christian Salem return this week for the Demons.

Meanwhile, Geelong has recalled ruckman Rhys Stanley and forward Gary Rohan for Friday night’s clash with the Western Bulldogs.

The Cats’ opponents have made only one change for the clash, with wingman Bailey Smith returning from illness to replace omitted big man Jordan Sweet.

Hawthorn is set to play a bona fide ruckman in its clash with Collingwood on Sunday, with Ned Reeves picked to return from a shoulder injury which had sidelined him for the past six weeks.

The Hawks have also named Jack Gunston (ankle) and Jaeger O’Meara (hamstring) as part of an extended 26-man squad.

Hawthorn veterans Luke Breust and Liam Shiels will both celebrate their milestone 250th games.

The Magpies have named rookie Isaac Chugg on the extended bench for that clash, with the speedy 20-year-old midfielder yet to debut in his second season at the club.

North Melbourne key defender Ben McKay has been cleared to return from a knee injury against Gold Coast on Saturday in a boost for a Kangaroos backline that has conceded 100 points or more on eight occasions this season.
