AFL round 10: ‘P****d off’ Michael Voss laments another second-half capitulation from Carlton

Carlton’s second-half woes were exposed again by Sydney on Friday, leaving coach Michael Voss to concede he was “p****d off” about another costly fadeout.

Boyd takes another HEAVY hit to the head

Carlton coach Michael Voss said he was “p****d off” as Carlton let another second-half lead go to waste.

The Blues led coming into the fourth quarter of their clash with the Swans in Sydney, only to see the home side kick five of the next six goals to surge to victory.

“They finished off the game better than us. I think that’s what makes you pretty pissed off to be honest,” he said.

“We had the game where we wanted it and we couldn’t finish off the game.

“Roles that we had; we strayed from. Heeney and Warner we put a heap of effort into in our planning and we couldn’t get it done in the second half. They got off the chain.

“To have the game going largely in our favour, there was some good method in the way we played in the early parts of the game.

“But you’ve got to close the deal and we weren’t good enough to close it.”

Voss said he expects the MRO to pay close attention to a high shot from Joel Amartey in the final two minutes of play, forcing Jordan Boyd into concussion protocols.

“We lost SOS (Jack Silvagni) there and he’s obviously an important player to us. He’ll be assessed during the week (for a groin injury),” he said.

“Boydy obviously has concussion protocols from that hit, so he’s not doing so well.

“I’m sure they’ll get looked at, and get looked at very closely, and should be treated accordingly.

Controversial free against Mitch McGovern

It wasn’t the only incident that left Voss seething, with an umpire howler directly resulting in a Swans goal.

The boundary and field umpire deliberated on a charge down from Mitch McGovern, before ruling it out on the full.

The ball clearly bounced in before going out, with Isaac Heeney going back and slotting the set shot.

“It was only two people that actually saw it not bounce,” he said.

“Everyone else in the stadium saw the ball bounce. There was only two people that didn’t see the right result.

“That’s probably about as much as I can say. I’ve probably said too much already to be fair, so I’ll just leave it at that.”
