A Victorian midfielder is quickly shaping as a top draft prospect for 2024 after producing another dominant performance in an important under-17 match last weekend.

Calder Cannons onballer Nash King caught the eyes of AFL recruiters in Werribee on Sunday after racking up 20 disposals, six clearances, seven tackles and a goal in a Vic Metro under-17 trial match against NSW/ACT.

Vic Country faced off with Queensland in a second match that day, with players vying for selection in the Under-17 Futures match on AFL Grand Final Day.

“If you were to sum Nash up, he just loves playing the game,” Calder Cannons coach Andrew Sturgess said.

“He’s obviously a contested ball and stoppage beast and that’s what he does.

“He’s had a fantastic bottom-age year and played a really good game on Sunday. Hopefully he gets an opportunity to play in the game on Grand Final Day.”

King’s Vic Metro teammate Tom Gross also had a big game through the midfield with 24 disposals, seven clearances and two goals.
