The AFL is on the lookout for another international star to headline its grand final entertainment after pop queen Kylie Minogue confirmed she was unavailable this year.

The league is pursuing other alternatives to wow the MCG crowd on the biggest day of the AFL calendar following Robbie Williams and Delta Goodrem’s dazzling act last year.

Minogue was a top target for the league with her new album due out late September.

But the Locomotion and Can’t Get You Out Of My Head singer, who hails from Melbourne, has a scheduling clash which will prevent her from taking up the AFL offer.

There remains hope Minogue could participate in footy’s showpiece event in coming years.

But the league confirmed it was looking elsewhere, three months out from the premiership decider.

“We made an enquiry into Kylie’s availability for the AFL Grand Final however due to a scheduling conflict she is unfortunately unavailable this year,” AFL spokesperson Jay Allen said.

“We look forward to making an announcement on the 2023 Grand Final entertainment later in the season.”

Williams and Delta Goodrem set a high bar last year for their pre-game act which was considered the best Grand Final entertainment in the game’s history following rave reviews.

Williams stole the show, banging out hits including Let Me Entertain You and Rock DJ.

But finding a global singing sensation for this year’s vacant slot has proven to be a tricky task for league chiefs who are keen to replicate last year’s major success.

It is unclear whether the league will have to turn to a domestic artist as the clock ticks down.

Coldplay had been rumoured as a possible answer but the rock stars won’t hit Australia’s shores until they tour Perth in November.
