AFL Teams: Full Round 17 squads and the best SuperCoach advice

DANIEL Wells is back and Tom Boyd’s ban is over but Mitch Clark has been dumped one game into his AFL comeback. See all the teams.

TOM Boyd’s AFL exile is over with the key forward named to play his first game in 13 weeks.

And Geelong axed forward Mitch Clark after a week of controversy as a minor rift between Clark and teammate Mitch Duncan became public.

Clark aggrieved Duncan with a sledge he made in the VFL last month.

Boyd, 20, flew to Cairns with teammates yesterday and will partner spearhead Jack Redpath in attack for the first time this season when the Western Bulldogs host Gold Coast tomorrow night.

Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge said last week the booze-linked ban would end when the “vibe” was right.

Assistant coach Brett Montgomery said Boyd would help straighten the Dogs, who rank 16th for converting forward entries into goals.

“We think we’re just lacking one taller target down there with Tommy being more of a forward/ruck, rather than playing two ruckman,” he told the club’s website.

“We’re still yet to settle on what is our best make-up, and the make-up of our forward line.

“Tom gets another opportunity and we’re really looking forward to getting Tom up and going.”

The Herald Sun believes Boyd’s ban extended one more week on the back of feedback from the players.

In the past six weeks Boyd has returned from a shoulder injury, played five VFL games and been punished for a drunken fight he had with teammate Zaine Cordy.

Cordy needed stitches below his right eye and took himself to hospital after the scuffle at a suburban pub.

Beveridge hinted on Tuesday that Boyd and Cordy had “paid their penance”.

Gun kid Josh Dunkley was also added to the Dogs’ side with Tom Liberatore (rib) and Lukas Webb (dropped) making way.

North Melbourne regained Daniel Wells, Jarrad Waite and Nick Dal Santo in a huge boost for their must-win clash against Port Adelaide.

Wells, a key to the Roos’ flying start to the year, has not played since Round 13 while Waite has missed the past three matches.

“It would have been slightly risky to play them last week, based on the preparation they’ve had,” coach Brad Scott told the club’s website.

“We feel the extra week, and the really good block of training they’ve got in, means they can come in and perform to their best.”

The Suns’ midfield has been savaged with Gary Ablett (shoulder), Dion Prestia (knee) and Michael Rischitelli (knee) all forced out.

But Jarrad Grant — delisted by the Dogs after playing in their elimination final last year — will return to face his old side.

Dropping Clark after just one game back following a year out of the senior side due to injury, the Cats also rested superstar Jimmy Bartel and dropped Darcy Lang for tonight’s clash against Fremantle at Subiaco.

Rhys Stanley, Shane Kersten and Josh Cowan were included.

Boyd has not played since Round 4 and Beveridge said the No. 1 pick proved at the start of the season he was a “really important cog” in the best 22.

Carlton lost Dale Thomas (calf), Andrew Walker (knee), Levi Casboult (suspension) and dropped Andrejs Everitt for its game against West Coast at the MCG.

Young goalkickers Charlie Curnow and Kristian Jaksch as well as Liam Jones were named in the squad.
