‘Holme’ is where the heart is for these Southport brothers out to capture the imagination of the Australian music scene with the long awaited return of Australian Idol.

The brothers, Angus and Bobby Holmes graduated from Southport State High School – the school of Australian Idol royalty and host Ricki-Lee Coulter and singer/songwriter Amy Shark, one of this season’s judges.

Well known within the Gold Coast music scene, the duo regularly gig at Waxy’s Irish Pub, Burleigh Bears, Currumbin RSL and Surfers Diggers after launching their career in Tokyo.

Now the Holmes boys are hitting national television with their auditions Tuesday 31 on Channel 7 after the show’s 14-year hiatus.

Angus, 21 and Bobby, 17 said the pair would watch past episodes online and decided to apply in an effort to take their music “to the next level”.

“Auditions were an amazing process and we got to meet some really incredible people – judge Kyle Sandilands was a lot of fun,” Angus said.

“I used to watch all the shows on YouTube and I’d think: ‘Wow I wish that would be me one day’, and look,” Bobby laughed.

“I was pretty nervous during the audition, I got to shake all the judges’ hands so I can tick that off my bucket list. I don’t think we messed up too badly,” he added.

When they’re not strumming their guitars, the brothers can be found down at Main Beach: “spending too much money” at their local haunts.

“Bobby goes to the beach every morning at Main Beach,” said Angus. “We both work in the hotel industry, Bobby’s a bartender at Paradise Resort and I work at the Sheraton Grand in Main Beach.

“The Gold Coast is awesome – we love calling it home.”
