A developer has taken out two sizeable chunks on arguably the Gold Coast’s most famous street, Hedges Ave in Mermaid Beach.

Through company 200 Hedges, veteran car dealer Warren Von Bibra and construction industry figure Levi Corby purchased an ageing duplex for $3m in a sale that settled on January 17.

The property at 14 Cronulla Ave, is at the corner of the western “dry” side of Hedges Ave and was previously owned by Paul and Tamara Kuhnemann.

While there’s no sign of a development approval for the site yet, the Corby-von Bibra partnership has already been active on the Gold Coast – recently selling out the high-end terrace-home project Habitat, which overlooks the ocean at Tugun.

Meanwhile, the $14.5m buyer of a vast Monaco St mansion at Broadbeach Waters has been revealed as Sharon Cummings.

The sale, which settled on January 14 but was struck in October, was the highest of 2021 for the exclusive street.

The exquisitely-styled new home, previously owned by Tara Walsh, designed by Jared Poole, sprawls across a 2390m2 double block, boasting 115.1m of water frontage on Main River.

Down the road on the western end of Monaco St, a mansion that featured in several international film productions settled for $11.6m just five days later.

That six-bedroom, four-bathroom home was sold by Bruce and Melissa Jack to Brian and Lauren McMaster.

Meanwhile, a showy Sovereign Islands mansion, once marketed for $19.5m, has sold for $11m – the same price the owner bought it for 15 years ago.

The striking red and grey mansion “Baltimore” has been on the market four times since it was bought for $11m by Susan Mavis Lillioja in 2006.

It was listed by various agents at $13.75m, $16.5m and $19.5m before it was taken to an expressions of interest campaign in 2019, where it stayed for 645 days before selling.

Property records have revealed Ms Lillioja sold the seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom home on two blocks at Royal Albert Court for $11m, settling on January 14.

The opulent 2200sq m waterfront home is spread over four levels with floor-to-ceiling glass, superlative black granite tiles, vibrant red features and pricey furnishings.

The buyer was Kim Diane England, is no stranger to the exclusive Paradise Point pocket, having splurged $4.22m for 11 Knightsbridge Pde in July.

That mansion was promptly put back on the market in October, and settled last week at an as-yet undisclosed sum.

Also among the large settlements made in a bumper January was the $7.7m sale of a renovated waterfront mansion in The Circle at Sanctuary Cove.

A farming family from Queensland, had given the property a top to bottom overhaul since buying it in 2014.

The grain-growing couple, Trevor and Theresa Rauchle, had reportedly spent a seven-figure sum renovating the five-bedroom property, which was their holiday home.

It settled on January 11 to Ping Ji.

Reaching almost as high a price was the $7.5m sale of a seven-bathroom Bayden Goddard-designed home on Commodore Dr at Paradise Waters.

The home, which boasted “lashings of imported Carrara marble, extravagant chandeliers and the multitude of bronzed and bevelled glass doors”, was settled to new owner Sandra Peach on January 28.

Sellers Gary and Julie McPherson had attempted to sell the property on several occasions since picking it up for $1m in 2013, including a listing for $5.95m in 2018.
