New Gold Coast developments by Soheil Abedian and David Devine approved for exclusive suburbs

Gold Coast housing prices skyrocket

LEADING developer David Devine has abandoned plans for a Burleigh tower in favour of building an even bigger building.

Mr Devine, who is also building the $400m Royale in Surfers Paradise, has dumped the already approved and sold-out Alba tower after successfully amalgamating its site on North Burleigh’s The Esplanade with neighbouring land.

His company, DD Living, lodged plans with the Gold Coast City Council over the weekend for Burly, a $400m, 24-storey tower which will have 100 units.

Those who bought units in Alba will have their purchases transferred to the new tower.

Mr Devine told the Bulletin the decision to build the larger tower was made after the neighbouring land became available.

“It’s not easy to amalgamate sites on The Esplanade, but when you do, it delivers a better result for both the apartment purchaser and the Gold Coast community as a whole. When the opportunity presents itself, you need to grab it with both hands,” he said.

“We are making the most of this opportunity with a new architectural design that improves the residential offering, which is only possible now after doubling the space we originally had.”

The new tower will have larger units, with a mixture one, two and three bedrooms and a penthouse.

Burly will go before council’s Planning Committee for approval in early 2023.

It comes as Britain-based developer and interior design company Banda, headed by Princess Beatrice’s husband Edo Mapelli Mozzi, used the weekend to unveil plans for the “seven-star” building, which will be built on Main Beach Parade. The Masthead Ocean Club tower will be 37-storeys and will be built in a joint venture between Banda and Australian businessman Rory O’Brien who bought the site in 2019.

CONSTRUCTION of Sunland boss Soheil Abedian’s new $255m Mermaid Beach tower will begin in early 2023.

The Gold Coast City Council on Friday gave the green light to Peerless, a 36-storey luxury skyhome high-rise which will be built over the city’s most expensive mansions on Hedges Ave.

Mr Abedian, the man who built Q1 and the Palazzo Versace, will partner on the project with his son, architect Tom Jamieson.

He told the Bulletin on Sunday that construction would begin in February.

“Hutchinsons has been appointed as the builder and we will begin construction straight away,” he said.

“I am not worried about the market at all because it is a reality that the development industry goes through cycles.”

The tower is earmarked for the northern side of Peerless Ave, the southernmost street in the area which is zoned for high-rises.

It is one of a number of new tower developments pitched for the area which have created angst among residents concerned about the loss of the area’s “relaxed vibe” and amenities.

Mermaid Beach, which includes the “millionaire’s row” of Hedges Ave, is home to some of the Gold Coast’s most expensive property.

Peerless sits just south of Sunland’s recently completed $250m 272 Hedges Ave tower.

It will have 109 units across 33 residential levels.

It will have a mix of two, three and four bedroom units, as well as a single-floor penthouse.

Peerless was designed by Spatium Architects.

The site was amalgamated this year by real estate firm Kolloche, with the sale settling late last week.

Mr Abedian founded Sunland in 1983 and went on to built the landmark Q1 and Palazzo Versace projects.
