Gold Coast housing prices skyrocket

A revamped Kirra Beach Hotel is at the heart of a multimillion hospitality development inside the southern Gold Coast’s biggest-ever tower project.

The doors to the first stage of KTQ Group’s $380m Kirra Point Precinct will swing open on November 8, right in time for the summer season.

The three-tower project is taking shape after nearly three years of construction, with the first residents moving in by early 2024.

Opening first will be the new Kirra Beach Hotel, an institution for the beachside suburb for decades before its 2021 closure.

Back behind the bar will be long-time publican Greg “Hodgy” Hodge.

Mr Hodge, who ran the old venue for eight years, said the spirit of the old venue would remain inside the new-look 1300sq m pub, which will feature a beer garden, sports bar, bistro and boutique bottle shop.

“The pub has been here for seventy-odd years. The local community already knows and loves it, and the core values haven’t changed,” he said.

“Kirra and the Kirra Beach Hotel have always been very community driven and we will keep that going, supporting local groups like the Surf Lifesaving Club and various charity fundraisers.

“The pub should and will always remain always be a (community) hub.”

Also opening in November will be the Kirra Beach House, a 1200sq m “elevated beachfront dining, drinking and event destination with an unparalleled and unobstructed view of the shimmering blue horizon of ocean and sky from every vantage point in the venue”.

The venue will be operated by SITE Hospitality boss Dave Galvin who has already made his mark on the Gold Coast region with venues such as Kōst in Broadbeach and Mozza Mozza in Southport.

Mr Galvin said he had spent four years developing the concept for his “dream” venue.

“The Southern Gold Coast has been crying out for a venue like this but it was important

for us to ensure it embodied the Kirra lifestyle. We wanted to create something that was elevated yet approachable and effortless, evoking the idyllic feeling of a relaxed beachside oasis,” he said.

“An environment where you can feel like you are worlds away yet it’s still convenient.

“It will have a beach club atmosphere about it, with great music, mesmerising panoramic views of Kirra, Mediterranean-style food using the incredible local produce we have on our doorstep.”

The multi-tower development, which has been in the works for 11 years, is the brainchild of KTQ owner Peggy Flannery, with the 116-unit first tower above the pub set to open in early 2024.

A collection of units in the tower will be launched to the market next year as hotel unit accommodation.

KTQ development director Jeremy Homes said: “We want locals to come here, people from all over the Gold Coast and Australia, and all become invested in the Kirra ethos and rhythm.

“The most lasting impression won’t be the building or a location – but a feeling,” he added.

Mrs Flannery said she was looking ahead to the future stages, which will include a second residential tower, a boutique hotel and retail laneway

“We have taken great pride and care in designing a precinct that will have a warm and

welcoming seaside village atmosphere that will enrich the community long term and help it to thrive, creating a way of life that welcomes everyone to be part of it and a space that creates lasting moments that stay with you forever,” she said.
