MERITON boss “high-rise” Harry Triguboff has unveiled plans for a 79-storey supertower in the heart of Broadbeach.
Plans have been lodged with the Gold Coast City Council for the tower, which has been dubbed Pegasus and will be two-storeys higher than Q1, the southern hemisphere’s tallest residential tower.
And it won’t be the last, with Mr Triguboff vowing to buy more land on the Coast to develop.
Pegasus, which will include 172 rental apartments and a 216-suite Meriton hotel, will be built on a Surf Parade site directly behind the existing Meriton suites twin towers.
The 89-year-old developer said the tower would become a “skyline eye-catcher” and insisted he was “more bullish by the day over the future of the Gold Coast” despite the slowing construction industry.
“I go there virtually every weekend and the buzz and vitality of the place has re-energised me,” he said.
“The sales records show more and more Australians want to live there and, with travel back on the agenda after Covid, our international buyers are returning.
“In terms of development land, I can’t get enough and I am shopping for more.
“Of course, I wouldn’t be here if the city council didn’t encourage building and wanted to keep the city motoring.”
It is the third tower Mr Triguboff has planned for the Gold Coast in the past five years.
Hi recently completed work on the 76-storey Ocean tower in central Surfers Paradise and is about to begin construction on his fast-tracked Iconica project, which will have two towers of 76 and 50-storeys respectively.
