The $1.5bn Harbour Shores development will launch to the market in coming weeks after the mega project, won a coveted prize, being named the Gold Coast’s most environmentally friendly project
The Green Building Council of Australia has awarded the Lewis Land Group project a 6-Star Green Star Communities rating, the highest it has even given a local project.
It won the prize because it will be “entirely fossil-fuel free and feature extensive energy efficiency, sustainability and community building initiatives, and more than 80 per cent of construction waste will be either reused or recycled. “
Building Council chief impact officer Jorge Chapa said the developer, which also created Harbourtown and the Sovereign Islands, had “shown that they are a leader on the Gold Coast and are setting a high standard delivering a fossil-fuel free precinct.”
“Their Harbour Shores masterplan is an outstanding example of a future-focused precinct that will have a positive impact on people and the planet. We look forward to seeing how this healthy, green space is embraced by the local community,” he said.
The 16ha site, which stretches along 1.5km of canal-front, will become home to more than 2000 houses and nearly 5000 people, with the company planning to build 30 buildings which will range from two to 12 levels.
The project is expected to create more than 5000 jobs during the 10-year construction phase.
Lewis director Marnie Lewis-Millar said the company had a commitment to community as much as it is a commitment to sustainability”.
