Gold Coast development: Towers planned for Southport, Palm Beach and Surfers Paradise

A raft of new towers are being unveiled as the Gold Coast council greenlights other developments in a flurry of activity on the highrise and units front.

Gold Coast housing prices skyrocket

A raft of new towers are being unveiled as the Gold Coast council greenlights other developments in a flurry of activity on the highrise and units front.

Far from hibernating, the development sector has had a busy winter, with new projects submitted and sales secured, with new towers proposed, sites trades and even a marina floated.

Options Wealth Solutions has lodged plans to build a 10-storey mid-rise tower on Eugaree Street in Southport.

The tower, which is now before the council’s planning committee, will become the tallest building in the quiet residential street and will feature 68 units and a total of 115 bedrooms.

Meanwhile, further south in Palm Beach, prolific developer Sherpa Property Group has snapped up an amalgamated 1214 sqm on Sixth Ave.

The site, sitting just metres from the planned future route of the light rail, will be transformed but Sherpa general managed Daniel Clarke said it would be different from the company’s other 10 Gold Coast projects.

“This acquisition represents an investment that Sherpa is making into a region that it sees

significant value in. It’s an exciting opportunity to create something that will withstand the

test of time,” he said.

“We’re excited to bring new product to the market, different to the known and loved Sherpa

brand, but set to be a crowd favourite nonetheless.

“This unique product that we’re introducing to Palm Beach will allow us to connect with new

demographics that have been waiting for the perfect residential opportunity that meet their

needs.”

It is expected to go to the market in 2025.

North Palm Beach’s Tarni Ave is also being targeted for development with company Palm Beach 31 Pty Ltd lodging plans for a 23-unit project.

The nine-storey complex, earmarked for a site on the corner of Tarni and Twenty Eighth avenues, will replace a two-storey unit building

In Surfers Paradise, Frank Developments has unveiled plans for Maya, a 35-storey, 55-unit complex on the corner of Garfield Terrance and Thornton St.

The site, which sits near Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club, will replace two existing houses.

On Chevron Island, Sherpa has also secured the green light from the council to demolish a 1970s-era unit block and replace it with a luxury boutique project.

The 1710sq m Aroona Marina site on Stanhill Drive will be redeveloped and replaced with a three-storey project which will contain just 10 units.

An eight-berth marina will also be built at the Nerang River location and will be the largest of its kind on Chevron Island.

The complex will have four units on its ground and first floor, with two penthouses topping the building on its third level. All units will have a minimum of three bedrooms while the penthouses will have four rooms.

Sherpa founder Christie Leet said in December 2023 he had fast-tracked his plans for the site and would begin construction in late 2024 if the development was given the green light by the council’s planning committee.
