The developer behind a stalled southern Broadbeach tower has unveiled plans for another high-rise in the suburb’s north.
Leighton Pyke, a director of Melbourne-based developer Little Projects, has filed plans with the Gold Coast City Council for One Australia, a 37-storey ultra-thin tower, which will be built on the corner of Old Burleigh Road and Australia Ave. It will replace a 1960s-era unit block on the 690sq m site.
According to plans filed with the council, the tower’s design was inspired by the Italian long summer as a “paradise suspended between the sea and the sky”.
“The proposed design is driven by a contemporary architectural approach, incorporating subtropical and coastal design elements to present an overall architecture and design which is in keeping with the established character of the city and representative of the emerging character within Broadbeach specifically,” a planning report on the project reads.
It will have just 34 units, with a single three-beddroom unit per floor above its two-level podium and a single four-bedroom penthouse which will cross three levels.
The tower will have three levels of basement carparking with space for 56 vehicles. It is the second Broadbeach tower Mr Pyke has been linked to in the past year. He is also behind plans to build a $73m, 30-storey tower opposite Broadbeach State School.
The project was rejected by the Council earlier this year, on grounds of being too “bulky” and inappropriate for the site. However, it is understood negotiations are still ongoing.
