The owners of a Labrador foreshore unit block have lodged plans to demolish the three-storey building and replace it with a 25-storey tower.
Plans have been lodged with Gold Coast City Council to redevelop the Golden Shores Holiday Club on Marine Parade to build the high-rise, which will include 85 units and a total of 208 bedrooms.
The plans, put forward by Golden Shores Holiday Club Limited, the site’s owner, would see the existing low-rise replaced entirely with the 79.5m building, which will significantly exceed the 53m height limit.
A planning report lodged with council says it would also be higher density than normally allowed.
“While it is acknowledged that the proposed residential density exceeds that envisaged under the Residential Density Overlay Map, such is considered appropriate for the site and broader locale and is consistent with the prevailing high-rise, high density residential character emerging throughout Labrador and proximity to the public transport,” the report reads.
The project will go before council’s planning committee for approval later this year.
