Gold Coast $1m-plus property sales for August include $60.5m Queensland Government buys, mansions, and vacant land

THE top end of the Gold Coast property market continued its fiery advance in August, with 481 transactions settling above the million-dollar mark.

Big sales included the resumption of almost 20ha of land in Helensvale development The Surrounds, which was purchased for $60.5m by the State Government for the Coomera Connector highway.

Another big ticket sale to settle was that of 5 McMillan Ct Southport, with the $23.75m price tag of the TSS precinct property finally revealed.

However, the name of the new owner was not revealed, having been granted an intriguing, and rare, identity suppression by the Queensland Government.

Another big settlement happened at Maryland Ave Carrara, where Emma Weel, wife of race car driver Paul, sold the waterfront family mansion to Son Mi Bolton for $10.9m.

On the Sovereign Islands, 1 Royal Mews Paradise Point sold to Susan Dixon for $6.3m.

The sellers, Brett and Mieke Thomas, had bought the property for $1.575m in 2014.

Also on the islands, 66 King Charles Dr was picked up by a company directed by Thong Nhat Tran for $3m.

Seller Han Union, a company associated with Victorian Dan Han, had paid $2.8m for it in 2015.

In Southport, Melbourne businessman Frank De Petro picked up a full block of nine apartments at 30 Lather St for $3.96m, after it was listed at offers over $3.5m.

The seller, a company called Birchie whose members are Sydneysiders Judy Bridges and George Jorgensen, picked up the property in 2014 for $825,000.

Mr De Petro wasn’t the only buyer of a full Southport apartment block – nearby at 11 Anne St, South Australian company Fu Yang Australia settled on a near-new eight-unit complex for $3.95m.

The fully-leased, three-year-old block was sold by a company whose directors include Ivan Hammerschlag and his son Lyle, founder of Sydney firm Centennial Property Group.

That company had bought it for $3.07m in 2018.

At Main Beach, MMH Holdings picked up a 15th floor, brand new, never lived-in sub-penthouse at 5 Pacific St for $4m.

The sellers, Iwan and Tomoko Evans, had picked up the four-bedroom apartment, in ‘The Cerulean’, for $3.05m in 2018.

In exclusive Paradise Waters, 86 Admiralty Dr was sold for $4.995m by construction king Stephen Heran, who’d owned the property since 1997, when he picked it up for $935,000.

The buyers, medical entrepreneur Robert Gregg and his wife Elaine, a former model, had it under contract since December.

Mr Heran won’t be leaving the ritzy Surfers Paradise haven, having picked up nearby 21 Buccaneer Ct from Dennis and Mary Chapman for $5m.

A double-block property at 2-4 Norseman Ct, also in Paradise Waters, was sold by lawyer Fraser Ross and wife Chantel for $5.35m.

The buyers were Daniel and Ingrid Matruglio, both of Prime Equity Group and formerly of Commodore Dr.

On Chevron Island, the riverside stunner at 73 Stanhill Dr sold to Mark Spencer for $6.1m.

The seller, New Zealander Pat Redpath O’Connor, had picked up the property for $2m in 2005.
