Gold Coast housing prices skyrocket

A popular medical centre in the Gold Coast’s far north is set to expand under fresh plans unveiled this month.

The Family Nurture medical centre at Pimpama will get an exterior facelift and an expanded premises which will include two new operating theatres over 47sq m of extra space.

The plans were lodged by Dr Amin Gharaie, an experienced child and adolescent psychiatrist.

“The proposed development is intended to modernise the practice and provide improved facilities that will provide necessary healthcare opportunities, targeting family and children therapy opportunities that are significantly under-represented on the Gold Coast,” a report lodged with council reads.

“Two (new) operating theatres will increase surgery capacity and improve efficiency.

“The proposed reconfiguration of the medical centre’s layout will optimise the use of space, improve operational efficiency, and enhance patient and staff experience.

“These changes align with the development goals of increasing service capacity, streamlining workflow, and meeting the growing needs of the community, ensuring the facility is better equipped to provide quality care while supporting future growth.”

Dr Gharaie, who is also a senior lecturer at Griffith University, has been practising on the Gold Coast since 2019, with more than 20 years in the field, including time as a GP.

He moved into full-time private practice in 2022.

The existing building dates back to 1993 and has never been upgraded.

The interior will be reconfigured, to have increased parking with 35 spaces, up from 17, plus occupational therapy facilities.

“The improved medical centre offers an improved visual outcome with significantly increased functionality, including the addition of two occupational therapy rooms and compliant parking arrangements,” the report reads.

It is the latest in a series of medical centre developments put forward across the Gold Coast in the past year, aimed at the growing number of people requiring healthcare.

In December, plans were revealed for Labrador’s Acacia Lodge building, on the corner of Imperial Pde and Muir St, to be transformed into a healthcare provider, which has been pitched to the Gold Coast City Council by Gao Gao Investments.

Meanwhile, a historic Northern Rivers medical centre in Murwillumbah was sold for $1.9m late last year and is expected to be revamped.
