1. 5 McMillan Court, Southport

It was the biggest sale on the Gold Coast this year. There are no official records as to who the buyer is, but the property is now home to a former Adelaide businessman, whose identity has been suppressed by the Queensland government.

The local business tycoon and property developer recently became the owner of this opulent five-bedroom, 11-bathroom waterfront home. Mr Quinn made more than $400 million from the sale of VIP Pet Foods, which he founded, and $200 million selling most of his stake in confectionary giant Darrell Lea.

The sale of this prime beachfront block broke the record for the highest price paid for a lot of land along Hedges Avenue. It works out to almost $20,000 per square metre.

Few details have been revealed about the offmarket sale of this oceanfront home, which equates to $25,700/sq m for the 607 sq m lot. The buyer remains a mystery, but the seller made a healthy fortune out of the natural supplements business. He’s also a part-owner of the Parkwood International golf course.

Construction industry veteran Mick Power, founder of BMD Group, and his wife, Denise, plan to build a family home on this north-facing site after moving away from the Northcliffe Tce-Garfield Tce area which he said was going to become too high-rise orientated.

This property had a huge international campaign and was one of the first properties in Australia to offer payment in bitcoins. While the buyer was young Tah-nee Beard of Culture Kings streetwear fashion brand she opted to pay the old-fashioned way.

The giant home with six ensuite bedrooms, once owned by fallen developer John Fish, broke the Sovereign Islands record when the contract was signed. It has 1890sq m of living space, a gym with steam room, a home office, a 3600-bottle, temperature controlled wine cellar and a 25m lap pool.

The deal on this humble, five-bedroom home on a 1813 sq m waterfront parcel changed hands quietly. The seller, Natalie Miller, an interior designer went on to by another property in Carrara while Andrew Bassat, the Melbourne-based businessman makes himself at home on riverfront.
13. 1039 Edgecliff Pl, Hope Island

Buyer: Australian Innovation Centre CEO Mark Winfield and wife Lynette
Agent: Danny Zhang, Australian Homes Management
Business appears to be booming for the Winfields, who live down the road in Sanctuary Cove from this lot that they bought, which has 130m of water frontage. The seller was Gold Coast Cove, a company whose sole shareholder is Chinese resident Leng Gao.
14. 297-299 Monaco St, Broadbeach Waters

Despite this sale being penned in January the ink is yet to dry on it with the property still awaiting settlement. The buyer remains hush-hush at this stage, while the Crosses put the home on the market after committing to a $6m-plus penthouse in the yet-to-be-built Main Beach tower “White”.

This Southport abode was the long-time family home of the Frizelles, who earlier this year spent more than $7 million securing themselves a beachfront position at Main Beach where they intend to build. The buyer remains unknown but is from Sydney.
16. 506 The Esplanade, Palm Beach

Buyer: A farmer from southwestern QLD

The unnamed winning bidder on this home secured two houses on an 826sq m site that runs between The Esplanade and the Gold Coast Highway, which were used as a family compound, with each of the houses having basement parking. The $12 million price was the highest paid south of Mermaid Beach for a Gold Coast residential beachfront property.

In an usual twist, this property sold twice in the same year — both times for more than $10 million.In the first sale in February, interior designer Natalie Miller paid $10.45 million for the 1.75ha riverfront Carrara estate that former water-ski park owner Otto Pfeiffer had been trying to sell since the 1990s (see entry 25 below).She then onsold the property for $12 million in September.

19. 16 Darwalla Ave, Currumbin

This house is on the largest beachfront site in Currumbin and was not on the market when it sold after an approach to the owner. Property records show the seller as Kathryn Conforti, who is a director of Neumann Constructions and the buyer is understood to be retired celebrity accountant, Noel Holmes. The four-bedroom house, completed in 2018, is on a 1283 sq m site.

Marketed as one of the largest single holdings in the exclusive enclave of Paradise Waters. The home has six bedrooms, a home cinema, rooftop entertaining terrace, and internal lift between levels..
22. 10 Goodwin Tce, Burleigh Heads

Spyre Group is planning a luxury, three-apartment residential building at 10 Goodwin Tce — a 546 sqm site that has been home to a 100-year-old house. The $11m purchase price equates to more than $20,000 a square metre, one of the most expensive on the beachfront. The Brisbane developer has enjoyed a run of success on the Gold Coast with projects such as Elysian at Broadbeach, Natura at Burleigh, and Maya at Kirra.

Property investor Steve Anderson and his wife, Maree, sold their five-bedroom house at Paradise Waters and bought another home in the same street in 2021.
The Andersons sold the house to a Sydney couple planning a permanent move to the Gold Coast.

Known as The Dunes, this absolute beachfront property is one of only eight in Currumbin. It sold ahead of its auction date for what was at the time a record price for the southern beaches before it was soon trumped by an $11.3 million sale for No. 16 (see above).

This was the last remaining triple block on Sovereign Islands bought by local Gold Coast couple, Andrew and Suellen Osborne, who own an oil and gas exploration company, and plan to build a mega mansion on the lot. The sale made a neat profit for local resident owner Bina Stevenson, who picked up the block off-plan in 2006 from Lewis Land Corporation for $2.47m.
30. 101 Commodore Dr, Paradise Waters

Tulsa, a three-level mansion, comes with the city’s only approved waterfront helicopter landing pad. The four-year-old home, which in 2019 was marketed at $14.5 million, also has a pillar-less seven-car basement garage. Tulsa was sold by the Ryes, who built it on an 1129 sqm lot bought from the Bairds for $2.25 million in 2013.
