QUIKSILVER and Roxy Pro surfing stars have been playing tourist on the Gold Coast after several lay days, but competition has finally resumed today.
Former world champion Joel Parkinson said he was “getting desperate for a wave” but loved spending more time with his family.

“I’m doing school runs and getting into the normal life at home,” he said.
“Of course, I’d rather be surfing but it has been great hanging with the kids.”
The Coolangatta father of two and longtime shredder said it was hard to go on a massive break in the middle of a competition.
“Most guys who have been doing it long enough know we are dependant on Mother Nature,” he said. “Sometimes you get a lot of downtime which is nice and I think we will get some good waves in the finals.”
Hawaiian surfing prodigy John John Florence and world champion Gabriel Medina used the time to scout Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
Florence posted a photo of a koala wrapped around his neck to Instagram with the caption “Don’t mess with us #selfie” while Medina got up close and personal with a kangaroo. He has been sightseeing with his mother and little sister.
American surfer and bikini model Alana Blanchard made the paddle to The Other Side at South Stradbroke Island with her fellow competitors.
