The shockwaves from two of Donald Trump’s picks for senior government positions continue to reverberate, with a third dubious nominee added to the mix in recent hours.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr, who ran an independent campaign for the presidency before dropping out and endorsing Mr Trump quite late in the cycle, has been announced as his choice to run America’s health department.

Mr Kennedy, a notorious anti-vaxxer, promised shortly before the election that a second Trump administration would ban fluoride in water.

Meanwhile a senior Republican figure has said “everyone knows that” firebrand Trump loyalist Matt Gaetz will not become the country’s attorney-general, despite the President-elect’s wishes.

There is a genuine bewilderment and unease in US politics, including in many parts of the Republican Party itself, about Mr Gaetz, whose legal experience is limited, and who is under investigation following sexual misconduct claims.

Former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard’s nomination as director of national intelligence has also raised eyebrows due to her sympathetic comments towards dictators Vladimir Putin and Bashar al-Assad.
